It's daft to compare Joe to Shay.
A young guy with one good Prem season and a solitary cap for his country versus a seasoned Premiership player (ten or twelve seasons?) in his prime, over a hundred caps for his country, including champion's league and world cup experience.
Come on lads, take off those (English) rose tinted glasses. If you were the manager in the morning and your job depended on the call, which guy would you put your faith in?
Joe's the future, Shay is now.
I've had it up to my eyeballs with idiots spouting nonsense on this forum about Shay Given's supposed shortcomings. (He doesn't command his area? It's not a problem when he plays for Ireland - but then, he knows who his centre-halves are there. At City, they're rarely the same people for four or five games in a row).
Shay Given is the best keeper in the Premiership - bar none. And please don't embarass yourself and come back with Reina (Ask yourself, how many times have you seen the word 'hapless' in the same sentence as, 'Reina'?) - world class? A player who can't get a game with his own country? Cech was a great keeper but he's gone and bottled everything crucial since that incident with Hunt. Gomez is okay (never thought I'd be saying that, a year ago) -and only okay and Green's reliable too (certainly the best English keeper). I'd take either of those two - along with Van der Saar - before I'd even think about replacing Shay Given with Joe Hart.
That said, there's no way we should loosen our grip on Joe Hart. Give it a year more, maybe two, and we may have a lovely problem on our hands.
