In response to the police’s lack of arrests, City have hatched a plan which involves the fitting of 15 high-definition cameras, mounted on swivel bases, all over their coach.
The idea is that anyone throwing objects at the bus can be picked out by the cameras, and the evidence handed over to the police.
City have held talks with police forces in both Greater Manchester and Merseyside in a bid to avert any further incidents, and will sit down with officers again in the build-up to the match, which sees the two teams tied on points at the top of the Premier League table.
The Blues also plan to send their own security team to carry out a recce of the route sometime this week, in order to pinpoint any potential trouble hotspots.
Merseyside Police opened an investigation, with some of their officers hurt by flying objects during the assault, but after four months they
failed to identify a single culprit.
They said that the CCTV, officers’ bodycams and submitted public footage failed to give a clear shot of any of the missile-throwers.
Liverpool
were fined £17,500 by Uefa after landing four charges related to letting off fireworks, throwing objects, crowd disturbances and damage.
That is just over half of what Turkish club Besiktas were fined when a cat evaded their security and sneaked onto the pitch in a Champions League game, forcing a hold-up in play.
