What was it like following City away in Europe in the 60's and 70's

I thought that the two matches against Chelsea were the most boring games I have ever seen.

They essentially flooded the midfield and blocked anything and everything. City were depleted and the team that won so much between 1966 and 1970 didn’t appear to have a clue as to what to do. They ended up without a win in the last ten matches of the season.
It's true we definitely have a big squad then. I can remember my dad getting pissed off at the number of weakened sides put out which was affecting the league position and as an S T holder felt some of the games were flat.

My Dad and uncle were taken to the cup winners cup final by my Grandma. I will have to ask him what the trip was like as I only really remember talking about the game with the small amount of fans and rain. He did say programmes were just thrown on the floor because of the rain. I wish he would have picked a few up!

Went to 2 aways, one in 69/70 to Coimbra, and one in 70/71 to Copenhagen for the replay against Gornik Zabrze (no away goals in those days).
Drew the first 0-0 and won the second 3-1.
Pissed both times (excess of duty free whisky).

Edit: 3 aways - 70/71 Chelsea in the Semi Final, first leg!
I'll never forget that day. It was my 21st birthday.
Surprisingly sober.
How many City fans travelled to those Europe aways in those days? Must have been in the order of tens or couple hundred?

A plane full for both of mine abroad, and for Chelsea, thousands went, mainly by car and coach.

Delayed for 6 hours to Portugal due to a snow covered runway, and a different aircraft took us as the one we were due to go on was also snowbound. We ended up on a Dan Air Comet! (Should have been a BAC111).
My first ever jet flight, which is why I remember it.

Linfield away was interesting to say the least. Falls Road, trouble in the ground, and after the coach was attacked. One of the propellers on the plane was frozen solid, and it took ages before we could take off to get back to Manchester.

I think a few blues went to AC Milan away in the uefa cup. The game got called off due to fog and was played the following day.

I went with my mum and dad. Got off school somehow. We had a lot at the back in the stand with the shed to its right, think that was the season ticket allocation , have feeling we had a section standing too but someone might confirm. Unfortunately Colin Bell was injured and I think a young lad called Jeff Johnson replaced him. Think it kicked off badly at MR in the return game.
The home game in the 3/4 finished North stand was my 5th or so game, admittedly I was only 7 but don't remember any fighting just big queues to get in.

Just seen @Lavinda Past post.

Europe used to be Wrexham and the Isle of man for the pre-season tour.
Wrong decade, but Cardiff City away in the old 2nd Division in the 80s was the closest I've probably been (actually, Geographically Southend United away is closer to main land Europe isn't it!).
Seriously, too young to have done such trips so it was the TV and radio for me in the late 70s.
Funnily enough, I don't remember seeing too many of our highlights on the box ,maybe on 'Sportsnight'? (though there was a lot less football on TV back then. ) However, I do remember the radio commentaries as Peter Jones or Bryon Butler (who were proper quality commentators) always sounded like they were commentating with a sock on the microphone at the away games.
