My former neighbour's dad flew Typhoons in the skies over Normandy in 1944, and was shot down by a Mustang, who mistook him for a Bf109! (Easy mistake to make, I suppose.) Unfortunately, he spent a few months in a POW camp, but was probably very lucky managing to bail out successfully.Ive Seen blue on blue thats not good either . in civvy terms friendly fire
For his 70th birthday, they took him down to the RAF Museum, Hendon. What his dad didn't know was that arrangements had been made with the museum for him to sit in the cockpit of a Typhoon, and he had to be helped into it. It made his birthday.
(Note to self. I was 70 two weeks ago. For my 60th, I had a flying lesson. Here's hoping!)
