I remember Ken Grieves captaining Lancashire in the early 1960s. I can’t see that he would have got many games with Bert Trautmann, who was one year older than Ken, ahead of him in the pecking order throughout the 1950sI remember thinking at the time, it would be nice to sign Ken Grieves. Outstanding cricketer for Lancs, played for Bolton, Stockport, Bury and Wigan. Sadly, we did not get his signature.
I'd have loved to see Jack Simmons turn out for City. Perhaps at full back, or maybe manning the pie shop.I remember thinking at the time, it would be nice to sign Ken Grieves. Outstanding cricketer for Lancs, played for Bolton, Stockport, Bury and Wigan. Sadly, we did not get his signature.
Blimey, that was a bad loss to Stoke. Decent team out that day.
we had played them twice in three weeks before this fixture. this was the third time in a month. cup and league. we drew 1-1 away and then 3-0 at home before this fixture. im fimiliar with most of the team sheet except the lad at number 11 Deyna. I've read he was a bit of a cult favourite but with it being three days after my actual birth I don't know. I know from internet he passed away at the age I am now 41, but would like to know from a fans point of view about him.Blimey, that was a bad loss to Stoke. Decent team out that day.
My first ever game on the Kippax.
