I used to play with Ken Branagan's son Steve as they lived on Auburn Road, Old Trafford (sorry!) and I lived on Skerton Road.

Roy Paul used to visit a neighbour of ours (Walter Graham) quite regularly so I saw him more than a few times. The neighbour was the head chef at The Midland Hotel in Manchester which is how they met. I bought my first house off the neighbour when he moved to live with his daughter in Marple.

This was back in the days when we played on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In 1953 it was against Sheffield United, we drew away 2-2 then won at Maine Road 2-1.
