What's the best city you have visited?

Berlin is the one for me. So much history (a lot of it chequered), cheap (for western Europe), good transport, friendly people and generally a very cool and vibrant place. I didn't see enough of it, but Beunos Aires is also top top.

Berlin for me too, for the same reasons stated. Also loved Rome for the sheer beauty of the place.

I am going to Bergen in March, anyone been?

Glad I stumbled here though as now I'd like to visit Tokyo after the suggestions.
It's great, but it can be a little unforgiving for foreigners (it's not like with other countries that use the alphabet, where you can at least hazard a guess at what you're reading on menus and signs!). If you can meet up with someone who lives there and can act as a guide, or go with someone who has been before, take advantage.

Singapore has been mentioned a few times. It is great for a short trip but that place can really weigh you down; it's basically five shopping malls joined together by shopping avenues and entertainment, making it a bit of a soul-less consumerist hell. There's lots to do but I really didn't like the feel of the place when living there for a short time. Food there is incredible, though.

Personally I like cities with nice old architecture, especially ones with roman and gothic influences. Budapest is probably top, for me.

Closer to home....Dublin, London and Edinburgh are all graet.
Off the track...Baku was an interesting place to live and work.
Never again....Detroit and Delhi.
Whats wrong with Detroit? ;)

Actually there is a lot more investment going into Detroit now. Still a dump but not the doom and gloom it was 7 or 8 years ago.

I love them all.

For sheer insanity Mumbai. It is heaving. For that experience alone it was worth it. Train journey beyond belief and a bit scary.

Had to go to Goa after to recover.

Europe - Porto, Funchal, Bruges, Barca, Salzburg and most cities in Italy and Switzerland are aesthetically and historically interesting

Worldwide - khatmandu, Melbourne for sheer vibe, Siam Reap in Cambodia for jaw dropping city in a jungle

New York.
Bruges is right up there, and have a soft spot for Luxembourg City. Both beautiful cities.

This appears to be a thread of people just showing off that they have been well traveled! I have hardly been out of the UK. Love Newcastle and Benidorm.
