What's this 4-2-2-2 Business then?

Rodwell & Toure played together in the def centre mid v Dortmund & last week v Norwich.

Did it look like a good partnership ?

More thought is needed & much much more work and organisation, than the computer bollocks world some people are living in.

Last season we wasted pre season with 3 at the back & tactical bollocks. I hope Pellegrini starts simple & gives the players a system they feel comfortable with.

The bollocks can come later, when we have a solid unit.

Clearly Rodwell needs to work. He's nowhere near ready for the first team. I'm hoping that we can purchase a new midfielder that can form an effective partnership with Toure. I love sweinsteigger.

I don't know about "nowhere near ready" mate. I thought he was one of the best players for the last couple of games.
And should he stay injury free from now on, I think he could be a beast for us.

He can shoot the ball from a distance, he's got some pace but his defensive and play making capabilities are questionable.

Well he is no Busquets or Alonso, nor is he a Gerrard or a Lamps. Yet.
I think he's looking rather comfortable on the ball, has good technique and a cool head. I'm not sure what the plans are, where to play Jack in the future, as a defence-oriented midfielder or a box-to-box type.

I think he's going to be a Lampard type player.

Fernandinho in midfield to give us more mobility and greater passing range. And get in a winger who can beat their man and put a good cross in. Would like this to be a part of the new tactics please. We need quicker tempo and width.

Rodwell & Yaya as a partnership needs time. They both like to go forward, its not like Yaya/Barry or Yaya/Garcia where its obvious which player will sit back.

If it works it could be brilliant, but it might end up like Gerrard/Lampard

I don't think Rodwell (who I think is an excellent player) nor Yaya cover the space left by our runners. Milner and Barry (one of his strengths) do this very very well, if full back bombs on Barry usually goes to L/R back etc..

As neither Yaya or Rodwell did this effectively against Norwich we left loads of space which exposed a shaky Richards / Lescott partnership.

Hope this gets addressed.

Rodwell likes to go forward.

Garcia can only operate as a DM while Toure likes to both defend and join the attack.

I'd not be surprised if Pellegrini uses a 4-4-2 diamond formation as that is the formation he used while at Real Madrid.

---------------------------Aguero----Tevez----------------

----------------------------------Silva---------------------
---------------------------Nasri----------------------------
----------------------------------------Toure--------------
---------------------------------Garcia---------------------
--------------------Clichy-------------------------Richards
---------------------------Nastasic---Kompany-------------

Barcelona play a diamond in the middle but their strikers start wide and operate as false wingers.

--------Villa---------------------------Pedro

-------------------------Messi---------------------

----------------Iniesta------------Xavi-------------

------------------------Sergio----------------------

Abidal------------Pique--------Puyol--------Alves
