i remember being in their position and wouldn't wish it on anyone - so what if they think their a better club than they actually are - what footy fan doesn't....
Well I don't think we're any better than we are - I always turn up at games fearing the worst, whether it's away to the Rags or at home to Lincoln. Many City fans are eternal pessimists and possess gallows humour when things go tits-up. Who could ever forget the "Are you watching Macclesfield?" chant at Stoke when we got relegated to Division 2 in 1998? The vast majority of Newcastle fans on the other hand are amongst the most deluded on the planet - could you imagine them singing something similar in their darkest ever hour? I can't. I'm not saying we're any better than any other club's fans but compared to Newcastle, we're realists and they're total fantasists. The influx of money might have sent a few blues into Giddy-land but once the initial euphoria of those events of September 1st had died down, it was almost a case of as you were. And as for not wishing their predicament on anyone, fuck that. Like it or not, the reality is that 3 teams get relegated every season - would you rather have no teams relegated?!! That's not going to happen so what divine right have Newcastle got over any other club to stay up? As for this bollocks about them being most people's second club that, to put it bluntly, is total bullshit and is based purely on a couple of seasons of decent football they played under KK during his first managerial spell there. Nowadays, few people give a shit about them - every non-Newcastle football fan I know wants to see them go down.
Sorry for the rant but it's how I feel lol ;)
So you speak for the vast majority of Newcastle fans? How many have you met? Look, I'm not hosting some kind of Newcastle love in here, but over the years I've got to know a lot of geordies, and I mean a lot. From what I've seen, they're the nearest to us in terms of being pessimistic!
and just coz i don't wish the feeling of relegation on anyone doesn't mean i don't want anyone relegated - where did you draw that conclusion?
There's nothing wrong with banter and piss taking but lording it high and mighty over a club like newcastle is a bit rich - before our money we weren't so different. In fact it reminds me of the way a certain team talk down their noses at us - and I for one friggin hate that superior effin attitude those fans have - i'd hoped we were better than that
I'm sick of saying this but the way I and many others feel about Newcastle has nothing to do with the amount of money we now have, and this so-called "superior" attitude. I've hated them and their deluded fans for years, just like many other blues. There are various reasons for this - I posted them on another Newcastle thread a few days ago and can't really be bothered spelling it all out again. I agree I'm probably tarring most Newcastle fans with the same brush here but frankly I couldn't give a toss to be honest. I don't recall too many opposing fans feeling sorry for us in our darker days so why the hell do we have to feel sorry every time a so-called big club like Newcastle falls on hard times? As someone has already pointed out on this thread, Newcastle's fans have to share some of the blame for the position their club is now in - I'm a Keegan fan but he was finished as a top-flight manager by the time he left us but they hailed his return to their club as some kind of second coming when it was plainly obvious to anyone with half a brain cell that he could never hit the heights he achieved in his first spell in charge. They should have stuck with Allardyce but their fans lost patience with him way too quickly - I can't stand Allardyce as a person but he was a good appointment. Giving him just 20-odd games to impose himself on the club was unforgiveable but not to worry eh - their fans were delighted to see the back of him IIRC.
And just for the record, I know a couple of Newcastle fans myself and they're sound. I also know fans of both Everton and 'Boro but I can't stand either of those clubs too. I've also got mates who are Rags - does that mean I'm not allowed to hate their club either?
