I love lager on a night out but when I'm at home having a chinky or an indian, ill have a Few bottles of McEwans Champion. Tastes really fruity and gets me off my tits. I like brakspear triple aswell, has a taste of raisins to it, gorgeous.

I'm a Guinness man myself but recently had a few bottles of Worthington White Shield, which two of my friends actually brew at a microbrewery on the same site as where the aforementioned piss Carling is made, and it's a nice drink

Someone mentioned old tom, it gorgeous. I'm kind of new to drinking ales (only 25) so I think I have a lot of catching up to do with you guys. I know there are loads that you can't get in big supermarkets. Does ale taste nicer on draught? I also didn't know you could get strong ciders, get heartburn when I drink it though.

You're all making me homesick! They sell Proper Job at the alcohol-stazi place in town, but I've just ordered a case of English ales for the derby - Old Speckled Hen, Fullers ESB, Youngs Special London, Shepherd Neame Bishop's Finger and Marston's Old Empire IPA. Just wish they'd also stock Hook Norton and Ruddles, amongst many others. Think it would be a bit too much to ask for Boggart Hole Brewery to supply to Norway!

My memories of visiting Bodo & the Lofoten islands a few years back was that getting beer was like gold dust. All we found was 2% stuff tucked away on the further most shelf of the local 7-11 shop!! Do they still have the same attitude today?

Beer at normal strength is available from the food shops (I won't boost their egos by calling them 'supermarkets'), but anything stronger, including wine, is from the stazi shop. Having said that, you have to have run your beer through the till by, typically, 2000 hrs on a normal weekday, or 1400 hrs on Saturday. Some local areas are even stricter. In other words, you have to plan your drinking!
