When did you get into football/City?

My dads a rag but don’t think I chose City to spite him we get on alreet, but he did like to rub it in how we hadn’t won a trophy since the year I was born, maybe I though I’d follow a team actually from Manchester. Never had an uncle who was ‘a top Bert’ so went to games by myself & occasionally dragged a rag supporting mate along in my teenage years, sometime after the 86 World Cup, think it was Wimbledon at home (first game) went on the odd game over the next 2 seasons then all in for 88/89 season in the second division

Always been a blue thanks to my family. My Dad once told me never to bring home a girl if she was a red! Married to a blue now. Also used to be a ballboy at Maine Road and met most of my heroes, great days. CTID

1970. Eight years old. In Liverpool where I was born and raised. A local bully and big dipper fan lined up about 6 of us, and asked us each in turn who we supported. All answered "Liverpool". I was last in line, and when he got to me, I blurted out "Manchester City". He knocked me out cold, and I have supported us since that day.

My dad took me to Newcastle away in 1968. I was aged 2. Not a bad first game. We won the league that day and I’ve been going ever since. 54 years this year. When my dad came over from Ireland he lived opposite Villa’s ground and used to watch them. Soon as he moved to Manchester he started to watch City and that was that. It got into his bloodstream and he infected me.

First got into football around 1962, I was 7. I supported my home-town club Yeovil Town, but my grandparents lived in Saddleworth, so Grandad took me to Maine Road for the football and Old Trafford for cricket. By the time City signed Colin Bell I was a nailed-on lifelong supporter. Never quite got the Lancashire CC thing though, I am a proper Somerset lad

I was about 6 or 7 when I first became interested in Football and at first I didn't start off as a blue (I opted for a rag shirt as my Uncle's first wife was a red and she tried steering me in that direction). It was around the 1988-1989 I became a City supporter

ITV highlights Sunday afternoon of FA Cup 1969.
Neil Young my first City hero.
Vaguely remember 66 World Cup final.
Celtic v Inter 67 and rags 68.
Started going with mates to East Stirlingshire and Falkirk matches getting lifted over.
Was there a 66 World Cup Final?? Don’t remember that…sort of the forgotten match. Is there any film of it??
As a long-standing Stirling Albion supporter I can understand why you would never want to actually pay to see the Shire or the Bairns.
You must have the same international experience as myself with Scotland….mainly abject misery!!
Memories came flooding back after the Ukrainian shocker……

I am now a “proper Somerset lad” having lived here since 2007 (after 25 years in Manchester). Not many MCFC fans down here - all have Direct connections to Manchester - born, lived in Manchester etc.
Manchester City (men’s team) have never played Yeovil Town and I still hope that might happen.

1962 aged 10 started following City, remember from 63 till 66 in the old 2nd division never missed home games and went to away games on the local coach firm with my mates all young lads we we're allowed to go to grounds like Bolton,Bury,Preston,Huddersfield Rotherham places not far away.Don't think you can go to City now if your under 15 without an adult.

Always watched football (grew up in the middle east). Loved (and still do) Brazil national team. I wasn't familiar with Man City until Robinho signed - started watching City since and became hooked - Do my best to watch every single game (even while my kids are playing live - i watch it on my cell) - been in Manchester once for a derby (we lost 2-1 at the Etihad in Dec 2019) - enjoyed the city a lot despite the weather lol.

I've promised my sons to take them to Manchester to watch a City game but ideally in the Spring. We went to Chicago to watch City v. Dortmund in 2018 and we will go to Houston to watch them this summer.

Been in love with City before I met my wife and had kids - now the entire family supports City.

First remember our father shouting at me and my older brother to come in to watch the world cup final in '66 - he was 5 and i was 4.

In 1967 when we lived in Heald Green, my mate at school, whose dad supported Burnley asked if I wanted to go to a match at Maine Rd. I think about 1 grown up and 5 kids turned up at Maine Rd and City won 7-1, for me it wasn't the score but the noise of celebration, the smell of tobacco that got me, convinced that this was a wonderful place to be.

My father, who tbf was a twat, wouldnt allow me to go to Maine Rd, but wouldn't take me. I bought my first season ticket in 1977, in the Kippax. I remember in the game against Widzew Lodz, we drew home and away but LOST..i rememeber The Kings return on Boxing Day, wondeful days

When I use to go and see Scotland they were a good watch
Qualified for world cups.
Some quality players.Jardine,McGrain,Donachie,Hartford,Dalglish,Souness and Robertson.
The minute they started that tartan army club nonsense that was it for me.
I was at an East Stirling game and saw George Wood score from a long kick out.
Happy days.

my eldest brother got me into City. Wasn't a regular at Maine Road but would listen to the match reporting on Piccadilly Radio / Radio Manchester. The first game I remember (vividly) was Halifax v City. My brother was listening to it on the radio, I was in the living room building some **** with Lego most probably. He came downstairs to tell me Halifax had scored then started laughing and saying he was joking. By the time he got back up the stairs they really had scored. First game I attended at Maine Road was vs Stoke. Was more fascinated by the crowd than the game if I'm honest.

We had the hope then and quality players but always failed in matches that we should have won. Surprised that you omitted a couple of former Stirling Albion players off that list…..Eric Schaedler (RIP) and John Colquhoun. Eddie McCreadie from the Shire (before your time?)
George Wood scored from his own penalty area against Queen of the South on 9 January 1971……..long before people raved about Ederson!!
Shame that the Shire ended up going out of the league in 2016 and no guarantee that the Binos will suffer the same fate.

McCreadie never saw him play for Scotland.Mind him trying to take Bremners head off.
Another Stirling man,Raploch.
Never ever liked him.
John Colquhoun one of my favourite players ever.
No time really for any Hibs players.

When I was a kid

Age no clue but at Least around the age of 5, getting a city scarf put round my neck as a toddler realy doesn't count as I was oblivious to most things then
