When did you get into football/City?

Always had a ball at my feet when I was about 3-4 according to Mum. City when I was about 8 only because my best mate supported them. He left City for Derby County but I kept faith. My first game was WHL. First home game Leeds. Wicked atmosphere in the Kippax. Think I got hit there by a coin. Mum saved Persil tokens for rail tickets to travel from Waltham Cross, Herts. Will always be grateful to her for doing that.

My dad was not that bothered about football , liked his boxing and worked Saturdays , my mum was City and my auntie and uncle were too. I went to my first games with my uncle in the late 60s. I think about 1968 I was in love the minute I went to Maine Road .. the noise , the pitch and the “naughtiness “ of adults swearing and the humour . We always sat in the platt lane or main stand. As I got a bit older we went more often, then in my teenage years I went on the kippax with school mates and back with my uncle after. When my dad no longer worked Saturday he came too. The first game I really remember was King Colin’s return V Newcastle- Boxing Day. I knew long before that though that if would be a lifetime devotion.

1953 for me - but that was only watching the games in black and white on TV - physically in 1955 when I went to Maine Raod with my dad and uncle.

Our son Colin started at age four just before we migrated to New Zealand in 1974. When we came for a holiday in 1976 he went down to the dressing room after a game and got some autographs - my wife and I were in the lounge have drinks and nibbles.

I don't really like football. I did try to watch a game on the tv the other year. I think we were the ones in blue, but I couldn't work out the offside thingy, so I gave up.

I’m a Blue from Edinburgh. My grandad was based outside Manchester in the RAF back in the day and decided to follow City as a pastime.

Needless to say he fell in love and I was born into it. Used to question why we did it in the 90’s but he always had huge optimism.

I would give anything for him to see us now.

I reckon I was about 7? 8? that I remember going to Maine Road, I remember the walk more than anything, everyone was walking, streets of people but at the time I didn't get it, it was against Chelsea or New castle I cant remember actually, maybe I was 6 and maybe it was Everton.. so all that's crap, I guess I got into City sort of willingly in the season where we beat Gillingham, I watched it on the telly, my dad was there in London and I remember my hairs on my body prickling up and it felt weird. I think it was a bad pass in extra time across the front of goal and Taylor or Asaba? Nearly got it.. I think from then I got the drama of it

I was 6 or 7 when my late father took me to Gigg Lane to watch Bury v Manchester City. He wanted me to see Colin Bell play for Bury, we lost 2-1 if my memory holds up. After that with Dad near enough working 12 hour shifts 7 days a week I could only get to sparodic City matches through the late 60's and into the early 1970's. I left school at 15 and started an apprenticeship and was earning my own mony. I started going on a weekly basis in 1975 and up until about 3 years ago when ill health finally took hold I was going to every home game plus a sprinkling of away games here and there. My 9 year old grandson now goes in my place and I'm delighted for him. He's playing regular football in a saturday league and I have to say he has a great knowledge of not only the game but players of other teams across most leagues in Europe, he is footie mad and just wants to kick a ball about all the time.

As long as I can remember, literally!

I didn’t choose City; City chose me :)

Me too. Used to watch the older lads playiing footie in the park, I would always asking them for a kick, I'd of been four. My Dad was City mad and at that time always seemed to be going to watch City at Wembley and would bring me back a replica trophy and City rosette. He'd take me to watch the reserves at Maine Road when City were away, so I got the bug early.

1978. First game at Maine Road. City lost 2.1 to Southampton and our future leader was playing for them. Alan Ball.

Ooh City rosettes… we should bring them back!

Football as a kid , with dad and older brothers i had little choice really , met the first mr k in 79 and went to my first city game then and fell in love , the rest is history

Primary school I went to (Mauldeth Road) for free tickets for Coventry at home in 1977 ( we were 9 or 10). Loved City since then!

77’ for me beat that lot 3-1 might of been March ? As an 8 year old it’s a game I’ll never forget my first memory was the 76 league cup final watching kick off 2:30pm highlights on the TV Sunday while mum did the Sunday roast.Didnt really pick city I always thought it’s part of taking my old fella’s surname it just come with it. Never realised at the time it’d take my life over. Great times Great memories.
Genuinely could write a book on the journey as a few other thousand could .
Great thread as well .
Up the blues.

My uncle took me to my 1st game at Maine Rd about 1985-6 at a guess against Chelsea (his team)? We lost 1-0 but I was about 7 and wasn't paying attention.

1st season i really remember is the end of the 1988-89 promotion season. Morleys goal at Bradford. My 1st hero was Moulden was gutted when we sold him.
