When does a company or organisation have a right or duty to investigate a criminal allegation?

I would imagine it depends what the crime was. Fiddling their expenses the company will likely refer it to the police after sacking them - unless they are an MP then they’ll get bumped up to the House of Lords.

If it’s something like inappropriate sexual conduct then it’s for the company to investigate and sack if guilty but I doubt it’s for the company to notify the police, that would be the victims choice (assuming not a minor).
Seems a very messed up process to me. I would just call the police in any serious allegation.

Unless you're an organisation more interesting in stopping the damage to your corporations reputation than the feelings/needs of the victim?

Nothing says "FUCK YOU" more than a good old BBC cover-up :)

The victim surely has the right to decide to press charges or not?

Otherwise you (the company) become judge and jury. Let’s say you find in the accused favour so you don’t notify the police…doesn’t mean the police would agree with you.

Sadly some corporations will "ignore" their star performers misdemeanors as cash is king to them. I've witnessed that personally in the past with a "handsy" director who "got results"

They only got rid when he used the company credit card to buy a car thus proving my point.

The right to not press charges is a myth.
So the prosecution is out of your hands.
But you can then refuse to give evidence…
