When many of the council estate pubs disappeared

Pfft don't you come the 'I had it tough when I was a kid' stuff. My estate was that hard someone even stole the alsation.

I had it alright, there was nice run of decent old boozers on the old rd that have all sadly gone now bar the Lord Raglan, and then th epubs in gorton and on hyde road.

Nearest flat top boozer was probably in Bradford or Longsight

My grandad used to run the Crown Inn on the Old Road and before that the Apollo in Miles Platting. The Crown has long since gone but they did indeed have a flat roof veranda with Alsation. The Grove across Club St had two Rotweilers. Last time I drove past the Grove was still there but was a while ago.

Yes the crown did my mistake, I frequented it in the early 90s and also the grove when an Irish fella called Mick ran it , had some good old lock ins in the grove in them days.

The grove is still standing was owned by an African bloke up until the other year but closed just before the pandemic and hasn't reopened as far as I am aware

The AEU club behind them has closed and been sold for development, the railway just down the rd on the other side still going and I go in sometimes

They got promoted

Genuinely saw a tweet this morning of the above picture and wondered where they went, I forgot most on here are from the more poncy parts of south manchester / cheshire and never been in an estate pub in their life, but knew a few inner city ruffians and scallywags still post here and may be able to help with my ponderings
A garage near me has an alsatian and a rotti on its roof

Slightly off topic, but I was in a quiz league a few years ago and the team we were playing against one night had to relocate to another pub.
It was utterly vile. The beer was awful, the venue was shitty, and the other customers were like something from an apocalyptic horror film.
It was in Barnton, but I daren't name it for fear of legal action.
There may be worse ones, but I've never been to any.
