When was our last boring season?

I highly doubt there’s been a team anywhere in the world who have had less boring seasons than City over the last 50 years.

I was chatting to an Everton fan the other week who was bragging about their consecutive years in the top flight. And I’m like, that’s great but the only thing you’ve had of interest since the 80s, is the odd relegation battle. There’s nothing more tedious than having confirmation in October what you suspected before a ball was kicked, that you’re too good to get involved in a relegation fight but nowhere near good enough to be troubling the top teams.

Be interesting to go through each season of the last 50 years or so and count how many City weren’t involved in some sort of fight until right near the end. Be it titles, relegations or promotions.

Off the top of my head I bet it’s no more than about six or seven.

This one, and some of last season. Cant argue with the success we've had, which is great, but apart from the odd game, it doesnt get me excited. I like to see a mix of styles within the game, and more beating a man like Kinky did, or Buzzer, Barnesy , Dennis, Whitey etc

This one - on the pitch.

It's strange that we're the PL top scorers and have the best goal difference yet people find it boring. This isn't a criticism of the two I've quoted as I also find it very boring at times.
Other than that I prefer the current boring to 1998-2002 when we changed division five times in five summers.

i know its weird. Scoring loads of goals isnt actually as exciting as being in a close game, where either side can win, and you attempt things that make the difference between the two teams. beating teams 5-0 isnt exciting when you know after the first goal that its a case of "how many". The last one that got me really up for it within the game, was Fulham at home.

I'd say Pellegrini's last season. There was a terrible sense that everyone was just waiting for him to go gracefully, which was compounded by the knowledge that The Man was arriving. And that includes some of the players, by the way. Some of the matches were just playing out time.
It was sad, genuinely, because his first season was nothing short of glorious. It wasn't just the fact that we were champions (and won a League Cup, don't forget), it was that we did it with fantastic style. Don't forget the absolute caning that we gave to the rags, both home and away. On aggregate it was 7-1. Same as in 2011-12, you'll notice.
I always felt really bad about the cock-up that involved people hanging around for about twenty minutes after his last home match (was it in fact more?). Which meant that most of the stadium had cleared off at that point. He deserved better than that.
2015-16 was the season that immediately spring to mind for me too. But then looking back, we beat Liverpool in a cup final, got to the CL semi-final for the first time in our history, and only secured top four on the final day so I guess it wasn’t that boring. Certainly felt dull at times though, as Pellegrini’s tenure came to a fairly insipid end.

Spuds at home was great ! (eventually). But yeah, tend to agree.

Amazed no one has mentioned the pandemic era. None of us could go and with no fans it felt like you were watching a training session. That bored me more than any other season.
We battered liverpool at anfield 4-1 during the pandemic era and dished out quite a few batterings to other teams as well.

Going by the fire drills at home I would guess for a number of fans these past two seasons for sure. They have simply had enough of Peps football.

The club NEVER get the after match presentations right. Instead of doing the presentation first they arse around for 10-20 minutes, by which time half the fans have sloped off.

Zaba, Ferna, Sergio, etc. They never learn.
