If he goes upstairs, can you imagine the meddling and the sheer volume of interference a new manager will have to run whenever a result goes against them. A thankless task, I'd say.

Never. He won't retire until health forces him out. He's been in the job so long now it's probably his life. He's one of those guys that lives to work, the day he quits is the day he starts dying and I think he realizes that.

Agreed its his job for as long as he stays healthy and he has been saying that for years now.
