When you die, are you really dead ?

Or is there some kind of after life, like heaven or hell ?
I mean how can there be, many billions of people have died, are they all still hanging around somewhere?

I think after death is the same as before birth..... Nothing.

Hawking doesn't think so.

Glen Hoddle believes you comeback as someone else and if you were bad in a previous life you return disabled as a punishment....

If we exist after death, imagine an eternity of reading about how good Liverpool are ....

I was once asked this question shortly before she died by a terminally ill relative and to my eternal shame I gave her the intellectually lazy answer that there is nothing. As though I know that.

I revisited the question, reading everything I could on the subject, when one of my sons was serving two tours in Afghanistan, admittedly as a means of comfort should the worst happen, and now I wouldn't rule anything out. Shortly before he died, my dad regularly claimed to have been visited by his (dead) parents. At the time I put it down to dementia but now I'm really not so sure.

All my blood relatives are dead ,( puts losing at Wolves into perspective, ) I have no idea what happens but the recurring hope is that we are all born completely innocent at peace and return to that state post death.
