Yes, I know that means I'm not following my "local" team, but even at a very early age I didn't want anything to do with such an arrogant bunch.

In those days, United weren't the best team (Liverpool, Nottingahm Forest, etc were much better) but all United fans still stated as a incontrovertible fact that every schoolboy's dream was to play for United
... even all the Liverpool and Forest players were secretly desperate to play for United.
... And United was the team everyone wanted to draw in the FA Cup.
... And when the fixture lists came out each Summer, every supporter in England was only interested in seeing when their home game against United was.
... And the greatest players ever were Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards, George Best, Bryan Robson, etc etc.

I couldn't stomach it ... so I became a City fan to spite them !
