Where do you see us as a club (for our fans and others)

Right now in terms of history I see us as a top 8 side between 4th and 8th alongside Everton, Villa,Spurs and arguably Chelsea. Even if we won the title we'd still be in this group category. Teams have to earn the right to be in the same breath as Liverpool, Rags and Arsenal. In ten years time if we still have these owners and we've been successful along the way I would expect to be close to top 3 status but as for now it can't be anymore than top 8.

I think Chelsea could have made the step up had they won that night in Moscow. A premier league title this season would arguably finally clinch that move up, and prove that their success was not just fly-by-night under a fantastic manager. But yeah for now I still see them as being slightly removed from Rags, Liverpool and Arsenal, though I think they're on the cusp of being considered in the same group.

Same level as Villa, Everton, Spurs et al - over the course of history we always have been, barring the odd purple period for those clubs and of course our own such period of the late 60s to mid 70s.

But, and this is the big BUT - we are now challenging to be on the same level as the level one above our own - the 'top four' as it's been called in recent years - and we have the resources for our attempt at this to be very arguably more viable than Spurs, Everton's and Villa's - now it's our chance to capitalise on that and turn that potential to go up a level into a reality.

the next few seasons are going to be very exciting.

What a load of crap Manchester City without the money have hardly ever been in the same league as the likes of Aston Villa, Everton, and Tottenham in terms of club stature, those 3 clubs have won 52 trophies between them, Manchester City have won just 9 trophies, so City are miles behind those 3 clubs, also Manchester city are well behind both Tottenham and Everton in all time average attendances, Oh and Manchester City have been a Yo Yo club for years, and have gone 33 years without winning a trophy ffs, but your on the same level of course you are, how are those blue tinted glasses by the way mate. LOL

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the only Two clubs to have won trophies in everyone of the last SIX decades, where were Manchester City then !!!!

A pompous, self-aggrandising Tottenham fan who overstimates his club's stature. Now there's something you don't see everyday :-|

fook me is there any way them and the rags can both lose this fixture at the weekend?

Well as an Aussie, watching from afar, i am pretty excited by what i see.

A team that has made an absolute mountain of signings in the last 18 months (honestly i dont recall a team ever splashing out so much in such a short time frame) and if we can keep the team together, i think really exciting times beckon for us.

I still think we need that quality attacking mid, someone like Franck Ribery or Van Der Vaart, and continued success and wins will only help our chances of securing someone of that calibre. I also think a defensive mid would be nice as well, with many rumblings that Kolo's brother is on his way music to my ears.

I see us as being a genuine contendor for that coveted champions league spot this year, and with the exposure that brings, attracting more players in the transfer window and possibly competing for the championship within the next 2 years.

The main challenges ahead of us, with such big names and personalities on the list, is keeping ego's in check.

I worry for our forward set up. With a team that is so well off for forwards-Robby, Tevez, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, and a couple mroe on loan, obviously everyone cant have that starting role, some, not even pine warmers. So careful management is required. I am however, resigned to the prospect of perhaps losing Robby and the couple on loan. (Bojinov-who i rate exceptionally highly and Jo)

Defensively i think we are almost set, with bridge, toure, and lescott coming on board and offloading Ben-Haim and Dunne-thanks for your years of service, i think we are a lot stronger and will see that goals conceeded drop considerably from last year. Also with one of the best in goal men in the world and a great up and comer in hart, i think we are pretty set there too.

Like i said, our mid is where i would like a bit of a change, with perhaps ribery and yaya coming in, i think it would be really exciting, potentially, in 12 months, we very well could be seeing this on the park...

---------------Given---------------

-Richards--K.Toure--Lescott--Bridge-

---Ribery---Y.Toure---Barry---SWP--

--------Tevez-------Adebayor------

Subs:
Hart
Bellamy
Ireland
Weiss
Zabaleta
De Jong
etc etc etc

Pretty exciting huh???

Overall???

That blue moon is rising!!!

Stats can be used and twisted in lots of ways. 33 years without a trophy - Utd went 37 years.

Utd & Spurs only 2 clubs to have won trophies in everyone of last 6 decades - Spurs only won 2 trophies pre-war and didn't even win the League during the first 68 years of their existence (first league title 1950-51).

All time attendances - City hold the record for the highest crowd (some 9k more than Spurs all time best) and used to hold the record League crowd (coincidentally another 9k more than Spurs best in the League); and Spurs have averaged less than their Division's average on 6 occasions (have a guess how many times City have been below their division's average!).

The idea of this thread was to realistically look at how City fans view the history of our club, not to criticise teams of 'similar' stature.

Spurs go on about being this ghuge club far bigger than City. When did they last win the league? Nearly 50 years ago. And the United fans poke fun at us with the 'massive' jibes?!

Anyone when the next St Totterington's Day will be?
