Where have all the Insects gone ?

Maybe the insects have realised it's better down south ;)
.....I have a Wasps nest in the wall between mine and neighbours garage, whole estate is infested with crane flies and mossies (It's surrounded by an enclosure), and a hotel I sometimes work at in Reading, has a grassed area about 50 Square meters of a Miner Bees nest, millions of them!

It's probably something to do with the unusual amount of rainfall.

There was a wasp nest in the ground near where I live and had a swarm of them gather around a Willow in the garden.

Try putting out something to attract them, see if you can't find any then.

Won't be long until those bastard crane flies are about. Wish I'd never see those pointless cunts again.
Intresting.. the above poster says that this is the month for Crane Flies...maybe just late this year ..

Your initial point 're amount of rainfall seems valid....there have been plenty of damp cold mornings in the UK this summer, not conducive to insect spotting.

One species I have seen more of this summer is Dragon Flies..not loads but more than I've seen the last few years. I walk often by Rivers and Canals and that's where I've spotted the odd one.

The house invasion of spiders seemed different this year. Usually get some quite large dark coloured ones but not seen any. However, there have been a lot of smaller, lighter bodied ones coming in (which aren't as scary looking to be fair to them).

My opinion is, since the outbreak of foot and mouth disease at the start of the century, there is much less livestock, and insects love to hang around cattle and sheep.

No livestock, no insects.
