Where have you ever stood/sat in the away end?

Reading the thread about trouble on Wembley Way, somebody mentioned about visiting Leeds in the 70's and how bad that used to be. How very true! My first ever visit there was in 1977 when for some reason my dad and his mates sat in there end and it truely was an experience. The trouble outside after the game was simply madness and utter mayhem everywhere and I always remember two blues getting a lift home in our van who had been badly beaten. We sat in the car park as the FA Cup draw was made and we never got the luck of the draw as we were handed an away tie at guess where - Bastard Leeds Utd.

Other away grounds I've stood in the home end to see City are Nottingham Forest in the 80's, Bolton at Burnden Park (another dodgy day) Old Trafford twice, once in the K stand with loads of other City around us the night Keith Curle equalised from a penalty when we were down to ten men. But the first time I had stood at Old Trafford was in the late 70's. I had gone with a rag mate when we was about 15 and stood on the original Stretford End and it was a fucking nightmare when they scored and everyone fell forwards and then backwards about 20ft in a matter of seconds whilst holding on for grim death to the person in front or at the side. Remember getting the match bus there and back full of rags and hated every second thinking that everyone knew I was a Blue and all eyes were on me. Also sat in the Anfield Road end when we beat Liverpool with a last gasp Anelka goal and jumped up without thinking. A few shouts from the back and I sat down rather quickly and to be fair to the scousers around me they were ok.

Where else has anyone stood to see City in an away end?

the rags a few years ago, did'nt have enough points so a mate got me one in their end.
horrible experiance.

I remember the night Keith Curle equalised when we down to ten men. Don't ever let them tell you they're not bothered about us. The minute the teams came out everyone around us was going mental screaming abuse every bit as much as we do to them. It was intimidating sat there being the only ones not giving it out and it was obvious to those sat next to us who said we know your Blues keep quiet and you'll be ok - so fair play to those lads. Our goal came by a penalty so it gave us both the opportunity to gather our thoughts and not jump up, instead we shouted abuse at bruce for giving it away hahaha. At the end when the City crowd were taking the piss at the exiting rags we made our way down to the front of the tier above the blues to try and join in the fun when a copper moved us along and said 'come on lads theres no need to incite they're fans is there' hahahaha....quality '10 men you couldnt beat 10 men....'

Leeds was fun in the early 80's. Been in K Stand at utd a few times in the past. Tilton Road end when we went 1 up and then got beat 4-1 I think. We had to climb onto pitch and across into seats. Peterborough in FAC quarter final - we climbed into their end. Blackburn Away lots of times - anyone remember being in their end on the day of Hillsborough. Kicked of just behind the goal - pies, coins, fists, boots .................

The funniest time was the 2-2 when Albiston scored the own goal equaliser.

Me and my brother were sat in K Stand about two rows from the front.

In front of us were 6,000 City fans screaming abuse at us, threatening us, eye-balling us the whole game... and we had to try and pretend we were rags!

We kept hinting under our breaths..."We're City fans.." but no fucker could hear us obviously!

When Clive Wilson scored to make it 2-1 for the rags, me and my brother loked at each other, wghispered "consolation" and managed to stay sat on our arses while everyone below us was celebrating.

A few minuteds later, Albiston scores the equaliser for us... Fuck it...we were both up out of our seats leaping about like a demented couple!

Suddenly we looked round, and hundreds of pairs of eyes were looking back at us. Fortunately, a couple of seats away from us, this behemoth of a man, a bit like Grizzly Adams.. also leapt into the air with us. Another blue!

And I thought this fucker could take half the stand on by himself so I calmed down a bit.

At the final whistle, Grizzly walks boldly back up the steps, no one daring to challenge him... while me and bro' jumped down into the City end and away...

I miss the hungry years!

Oh, and I forgot Burnley and Bradford City to add to the list...

Plenty of times.

The one that sticks out in my memory is the win against Leeds in Jan 78, FA cup 3rd round. I was a student at Leeds university at the time, hence my appearance in the away end.

Police horses on the pitch etc - you can't beat it.

When Gary Crosby scored his 'goal' against City at the City Ground I was in some posh seats in the main stand courtesy of a Derby mate who got me a free ticket. I never saw the outrage, and neither did anyone else around me.

I remember having a piss at half time in the pig sty excuse of a toilet when reports were coming through from trouble at Hillsborough and the usual scouse twat remarks being made by everyone. Fuck me as the day progressed and the reality of the news was sinking in the 4-0 defeat just seemed so inconsequential. I remember getting a pink final back in Piccadilly and looking at some of the images on the front page and snapping at some young lads in the pub (sure they were rags but it didnt really matter) for laughing at them. When they opened the gates I went over to Anfield and laid a City scarf down on the pitch and gave a City rosette to an Everton fan behind me in the queue to give to his young son. A truley shocking day for football I hope we never see again.

-- Fri Apr 01, 2011 8:13 pm --
