Where is the single most beautiful place you have been?

So I'm told. Friends of my daughter-in-law's family in Pittsburgh have done that part of the world and they told me the Utah locations were the most beathtaking of the lot.

I was hoping to do a trip there in Spring 2022, as I thought my son would be in Phoenix at least until Sumer 2022. But it looks like they're moving back east in 9 months time so might have to think about the timing of that trip.

Utah is amazing: Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands and Zion. We are booked to go to California, Utah and Arizona this summer but more in hope than expectation. I guess we are still very likely to have move it out to 2022. Still need to decide on staying in Phoenix and the L.A. part of the trip.

It's my favourite city in the world. I lived there for a number of years just after the revolution in 1989 and just moved back again for a few years. Very different though now without the tourists!

It is very different now, even from my first visit in 1995. But I would also consider it the favourite city i have visited and one I returned to many times.

Two things I always remember is staying in a hostel at the train station (Hlavni Nadrazi) and being woken every morning (I stayed for 6 week) to the sound of the PA system screeching ‘Prosim pozor??’ and then the announcement the details of the next train leaving or arriving.

Also walking back up Wenceslas square (around 1am) and buying a full chicken on the way back to the hostel. A silly thing but back then, from memory, It was not common for full cooked chickens to be sold in the UK like they are now.

And also sometimes the most beautiful place, is very much on a personal level, based on memories, emotions, rather than just the view itself.

I will never forget walking along the Siq (Made famous in Indiana Jones Last Crusade) on my way to the ‘lost City’ of Petra. It was not just Petra itself, it was the build up before, watching Indiana Jones and Lawrence of Arabia, reading up on this ancient trading route before walking along the siq (in 46 degree heat) knowing that at any moment, we would finally turn the last corner and the carved pink facade of Petra would reveal itself.
Exactly. Your post captures it wonderfully. There is an emotional side to it that elevates the experience over ‘a lovely view of mountains’ nice though that is.

Very difficult to single out the 'most beautiful' and many I've been to have already been mentioned. Loved Corsica, the Alps, beach at Santos, Bahamas, Prague plus Oslo's fjords.

However, the one place that stands out as the most mind blowing is Cairo. The pyramids, Sphinx and museum were all incredible. The rest is quite the shit hole.

Completely mind blowing but yeah I travelled independently through there for 4 weeks and it was tough going, particularly coming from Sinai which was totally chilled out and a complete contrast.

I remember going from Luxor to Aswan and the coaches had armed escort as we were going through, in the words of the guides, terrorist towns. I also fell foul of the ‘come visit my art gallery’ trick in Cairo but paused as I was being led down a long alley, and managed to spin my assailants into the alley as he clumsily tried to push me down there. It was like that through my entire trip.

Thanks. Hence the reason we all have such differing opinions. I would probably take it further and say the place you are at that time in your life plays an influence. Just like how now you get nostalgic about how much better music/footballers were in your youth etc.

Also timing is everything. I went to Florence the other year a place I had always wanted to visit, but it followed Lake Garda, Verona and Rome, at the end of my holiday and the weather was poor and it left me cold. Im sure If I went back on a city break I would love the place.

Certainly is different now with no tourists!! It has changed in many ways over the years but I still really enjoy living here. 30 years ago it suited my lifestyle perfectly and, despite the changes, it still suits me all these years later. It feels more like home than anywhere else.

Im not surprised, its such a stunningly beautiful City and I always found the people very welcoming.

I met a girl from Brno in my teens and that was one if the main drivers for revisiting but managed to travel a bit around the country, and Cesky Krumlov was like something out of a movie. Watched ‘Boby’ a few times also, so sad to see there struggling these days.

I lived in Andel for a few years and loved it there, hardly went into the centre. Worked in Nove Butovice and just loved Prague so much. That was 10 years ago and really would love to go back. So many great memories of their.

I lived in Andel when I first came here too and later lived in Nove Butovice. I live in the centre now (Josefov) which I'm really enjoying. I might feel a bit differently when the tourists come back though!
