Despite all the recent marquee signings it has to be George Weah for me. Bought when we were less than mediocre and I loved that he was always talked about as a previous World Player of the Year.
Thought we were going to challenge for trophies with this bloke. Only challenge we had was keeping him, which of course we failed.

I was still young at the time,but I remember being really excited when Steve McManaman signed for us.He was still a well regarded player at that time,coming back from a fair deal of success at Madrid(English players playing abroad - especially for such a major club - had a sort of fancy appeal back then) and I thought it was going to be a major turning point for us..........oh well.
