Who’s gone in the summer?

Jesus and Sterling are going nowhere and quite rightly, both are at a minimum great squad players. The cost to replace those two would be huge.

I see Garcia, Aguero and maybe Mendy going.

It won't be wholesale changes though, we might pick up a left back on a good deal, maybe sign a striker for a big fee and possibly a midfielder (just cause Pep loves a midfielder).

More people would have gone if the season had continued on the 2020 trajectory lol, now not expecting many outside the obvious ones (Garcia, Aguero). Not even sure we'll be able to sell mendy tbh

Sterling on 300k a week is not and should never be considered a squad player.

In saying that if a club came in with a serious offer 80m plus, maybe the club would be tempted, especially with his contract situation.

I‘m with you, I suspect that Sterling will go if the right offer comes in.
He’s a marvellous athlete, he’s been great for us and will, I’m sure, be great again but he seems to have plateaued under our system.
Works his socks off but doesn’t get the breaks as often nowadays because what he does is now so well known that tactics are employed to keep him from being effective.

I also suspect that he’s had enough of being subject to niggly fouls every game but the refs giving him nothing whatsoever. I recon he’ll go abroad and rip it up somewhere else in a different system of play.
Thing is with the state of the finances of clubs abroad can’t see any of them paying the £90 mill plus we would probably request if we were to sell Sterling .

There are some that can’t grasp the fact that an EDS kid being stand out fantastic doesn’t make them good enough to step in and replace a proven and experienced player in one of the best teams in Europe.
An EDS kid being absolutely brilliant gets them to train with the squad where they can hope to prove themselves over a couple of seasons, pick up a bit of game time here and there and learn from the experience.
It takes time and they need to earn it.

Edit; I’ve just read that back and it sounds a bit preachy. I‘m sorry about that and I must emphasise that it was just my opinion and not some established scientific fact. I just put it across badly was all.
I think also though it’s not feasible long term to have four top centre backs like we have .
Top players like Laporte and I’m guessing ake will not enjoy being rotation options and I believe at least one of them two may request to leave this summer .
That’s why I think a young lad from the Eds if he was potentially good enough like a harwood bellis would be good to have as a third or fourth choice .

You could be right.
As example, Foden has been a shining light for youth development. He’s also, quite literally 1 in a million, his rise to a senior position, at his age, at one of the best clubs in europe is freaky, though very welcome.,
I like the thought of EDS players earning a bit of game time in the league cup or early rounds of the FAC but I think we’ll have enough game time to keep our senior internationals happy.
IMO deliberately scrimping on senior recruitment to make us dependant on the EDS suddenly churning out seasoned professional internationals would be a triumph of hope over reason.
However; I’m just pushing an opinion like you are so who’s to know eh?

It has always been hard in our side, to develop the EDS players. A lot have sampled the League Cup, but with everyone wanting us to break records and dominate in all competitions, there really isn't the room to blood the youngsters.

The fact that we have managed to keep hold of such a high standard of players such as Laporte, who would probably be not picked in our first starting X1, has meant that the standard has not dropped too much when injuries have happened, and we have needed to rotate, which is why we have been able to get to at least the semis of all cup competitions, and won the league.

Long may it continue.
