Who’s listening in?

I was looking at clothes in a shop yesterday. Then when I was on Amazon later, virtually the same sort I tried on was advertised. Probably coincidence, but I initially thought it had tracked me into a specific shop.
I'm surprised that you're surprised by that.
Google maps will direct you to a specific house or building so they will know exactly where you are at any one time.

I have a mate who was going to an office of Mi5 for work purposes (he isn't a spy).
When he got there they were questioning him about why he stopped at a petrol station - they had been tracking him before he even arrived.

That must have been a tough question for him to answer

I never have the wifi on my phone and i use it for very little interweb then off again , my alexa gets asked what is the temperature and what time is it and the odd sum , she is next to the telly so must be well confused , lol

My mate has an Amazon Echo and was discussing buying some garden furniture with his wife.

Later when he turned his laptop on he was bombarded by garden furniture adverts.

They defo listen in , i notice as well if you ask for a fav song it plays it a couple of times then says you have to sign up to amazon music something to hear it , it is a right scam i reckon

I just got an ad on Bluemoon for a Sotheby's art auction in New York on 26th January. Almost all the items are estimated at hundreds of thousands of dollars. I live in the UK and have never contemplated going to an art auction and certainly don't have that sort of money. Why do I see this ad? How dumb is the algorithm? Or is something going on that I don't understand.

Right now I am seeing ads on Bluemoon for a heater that warms up the room in 2 minutes - that seems more appropriate for me.

I get this a lot. We went to a reclaimed wood place a few weeks back. Just an ad hoc visit as we drove past it and thought we would take a look.

Next day. Ads for it appreared.

Some mates of mine discussed an item in a Slack chat I’m in. Lo and behold. Ads for that item appear.

The wife discussed something on the phone ( land line ) and bingo. Ads appeared.
