Who’s your favourite City manager ever?

Probably Phil Neal...

Joking aside as the title of the thread is favourite and not best, has to be Bob. He just got us and we got him. When he said he’d rip down that banner he did just that. He started the power shift from over the road. But Pep is starting to understand us also.

But the football we are playing now is from another world and Pep is a genius.
Phil Neal. I'd forgotten about him. So convincing as a manager I wanted to kneel on tacks on the Kippax steps: /

I seem to recall he was Coppell's assistant (albeit briefly), and then caretaker manager till we got the uncharismatic guitar strumming shit 'tache and shit jumper wearing managerial leg-end aka Frank Clark.

The definition of a great manager to me is someone who can make a team "greater than the sum of its parts". In my lifetime, the managers I remember doing this were John Bond (during his first year), Howard Kendall, Joe Royle (for a season and a half), Kevin Keegan (maybe, and only for one season) and now Pep. All of those managers had weaknesses but Pep is the only one who has it all: tactical brilliance, man management, intelligence and judgement.

He's the best manager I've ever had the pleasure to witness at work.

Pep is on another level, compared to almost everybody, anywhere, ever, never mind just at City.

It's just a matter of how much he has inside him, to keep it going. But imo, he would have been better than anyone at City, with any available resources, in any era & he's a very likeable bloke too.

There's no question whatsoever about Pep being a better manager than Mancini.

As for favourite, that's a different question - I think Pep being a bit of an oddball will always have trouble endearing himself to fans to create a real emotional bond. That's what makes him who he is though, that's why he will go down as one of the best managers in history.

Huge soft spot for Mancini though. He knew what little things to do to endear himself to the fans, as well as being a top manager.

Sums it up for me, I'm not sure some posters are reading the thread title, it's your favourite, not Greatest or best.

Quality post and I completely agree.
