Who comes up with this drivel

It doesn't. But when the club you support aren't winning things and certain other clubs are, you have to come up with something to make yourself feel better.
lol when we were shite, 30k in division 2 never made me feel better

A better question would be what paint dries the quickest, Farrow & Ball or Dulux?

Who’s dad is the hardest?

Both fascinating topics and far more interesting than “my club is biggest than your club”
I'm told different shades dry at different speeds so you'd have to pick a standard colour across both brands?

A one club city, just like Newcastle, for a big local population. They are only ‘big’ in that sense imho.

I hear this regular Leeds Utd are a bigger club than City , what utter nonsense , apart from a purple patch early to mid 70s, and the last first division champions that’s basically it , and a one club City that’s record crowd is 57000, it’s almost as if we keep saying it , it must be true …
Leeds have spent an equal number of seasons in the top tier and the lower tiers if next season is included Its a myth be like you said based on the Revie era and the back pass season of Howard Wilkinson

Do you live in Leeds? I can honestly say I have never seen this once being said, ever.
I live in Leeds. It’s not often anyone tries it. They’re generally pretty respectful and a mutual hated of Man U goes a long way.

My instant response is the following.

You were getting 16k for home league games less than 20 years ago with one of your stands not even open.
You’re a Rugby League town
You were strictly a lower league club until ex City player Revie managed you.
There’s more than 20 clubs with more seasons in the top flight than Leeds. City have the 5th most seasons in the top flight.
You’ve had no more than about 15 years when you’ve had higher average attendances than City.
Even in your glory period City were getting higher crowds.
Our highest ever home attendance is 25k more than yours.
We’re currently averaging 15k more fans for every home game.
And that’s before we start talking about trophies.

A one town team, with only Bradford on their doorstep, and recently Harrogate. Having a huge population to draw their support, the whole of north yorkshire up to scarborough and beyond up to Teeside. Like Newcastle, they only have themselves to tell each other how fucking great they are

they have woefully under achieved in my opinion

Just agree with them. It's easier.

It's a pretty common trope in recent times for outsiders to downplay City's size. They tend to hone in on City during the late 90s, primarily focusing on the fact that City's single season in the 3rd tier is reflective of the club's entire history, whereas other clubs get assessed from whenever their greatest success came from

They also like to focus on the fact that City haven't always had a full stadium at the Etihad, ignoring both the fact that the attendance is still very high and the other numerous factors that would limit attendance

It's just a means of justifying why City don't deserve success in their eyes. Which tends to happen when one is of the jealous disposition

Aston Villa fans used to be inordinately, and bewilderingly, proud of the fact that Villa Park had the tallest floodlights in English football.
