I'm a bit of a “fairweather hater”. I recognise it. What I hate about both sets is how when their club has a decent season they're suddenly in your face everywhere, trumpeting “We're back!” from every street corner. So Liverpool have had to eat some humble pie this season and they've been a bit less chirpy than usual. United by contrast have been in everyone's face, having won the Carabao cup (and having been smashed at Anfield, and having been knocked out of the Europa League)! There was even talk of them challenging for the league at one point! So I'm tending to hate them more at present. But it could shift.
That said, I've never had a friend who was an LFC fan, and I find it really difficult to have even a mildly sensible conversation over a pint about football with them. They do seem to have the mindset, literally, of members of a sect. Even that dirge-like chant they've got reinforces that. I've often been able to call a truce with United fans (especially if they are genuine Mancs) about football, and some of them have been pretty complimentary about the football we've played over the last ten years.

I was unsure until Rags lost and LiVARpool won and I was happy for LiVARpool to get 4th place at the cost of the Rags.
