Me, I thought he was just a vigorous, short square passer, but he is starting to dominate the centre. Very impressed last night. Hope his knee holds up.

Essien, Diarra, Mascherano are all up there. Dont get me wrong though, I'm not saying De Jong doesn't compare, but he is not the second best DM in the world lol

De Jong is absolute class. I do really like Kompany though, but when he comes back it isn't Nige who is getting dropped for him. Will he get back in the side? Who for?

I'll happily admit I had my doubts about De Jong. I thought he was "okay" last season. But nothing more than that. However, obviously not starting him for the first few games this season has stuck a rocket up his arse because he does look absolutely top class...

People are thinking i'm having a go at him which i'm not. Last season when we got the point at Anfield it was plain to see his strengths, breaking up play constantly and giving it to other players nice and simple. He was the best player on the pitch but that was because he had to be for us to get anything out of the game, if he didnt play well we would have lost that game without a shadow. Last night we would have won if i played the DM position.

Essien, and not just for 3 or 4 games, hes done it consistently over many seasons.
De Jong was very average last season and just like the last 30 of the derby, he could become almost invisible. Thats why people were getting on his back a bit.
However that 30 mins apart, he has made an excellent start this season and is showing why Hughes was happy to stump up a kings ransom for him. He has the potential to be one of the worlds greats, but potential takes time to be realised.

Knew he was quality, have said a few times since we signed him that he would be our key player this season, or one of, I know, a real big pat on the back for me! Have his name on back of home shirt. Some idiot behind me at COMS (vs Arsenal) kept saying "de jong is sh*t", no idea why?!
