Who is sold between now and deadline day ?

A.matchday squad is 20. At the moment we have 4 players out injured which is quite normal I'd say.

So with a squad of 26 only 2 players have to stay home.

Morning All.

Fantastic win yesterday that has left me hugely optimistic about our chances this season.

With Peps comments yesterday about our squad still being far too big the question now is who leaves ?

Given the fact Rodri, Foden, Gvardiol and Kova were injured that means potentially FOUR (SIX including Savinho and Ederson) players from yesterday’s squad wouldn’t make the match day squad at all (which we know Pep hates doing) assuming everyone is fit.

In summary, I think we can expect at least four names to leave between now and deadline day in 2 weeks.

My question is who ?

I would guess at : Eddie, Rico or Akanji, Gundo, Savinho, Kalvin Phillips (Doubt we will be able to give him away).

Those expecting Rodrygo to be be brought in to replace Sav will be disappointed as we simply have too many bodies in attacking areas as it is which Pep said himself yesterday.
Long old season though and if we are still in all comps then rest / injuries can quickly make sure everyone gets plenty of games.

I’ll go with Ederson, Ortega, Akanji, Gundo. Can’t see any takers for Phillips on a permanent deal when he’s currently (somehow) still crocked.

Ortega or Ederson; Akanji; Kovacic; Echeverri (loan)

If there are deals to be done on Donnarumma and Livramento (or another RB), then the other of the two keepers plus Nunes or Lewis.

If Savinho wants to leave, let him go.

Ederson probably, which is a shame but he seems to want to go.
Ortega, especially IF we sign Donnarumma.
Lewis - despite yesterday’s good performance I still don’t think he’s quite good enough, if Forest offer a decent amount I think he’ll be gone.
Savinho - pretty sure he wants to go, doesn’t score/assist enough so anything over £60m would be a good bit of business.
Gundogan maybe off to a Turkish side.
Phillips - Can we get rid? Who’d have him, unless we end up paying about 90% of his wages for a Championship club to loan him?

Rico comments ?
About him wanting to stay.

I'm not overly fussed which 1 leaves out of Rico and Nunes but with Pep starting him and his comments about loving the club after the game we should be looking to offload Nunes now to make room

John Stones or Ake needs to go; Akanji is worse than both, but he is available most of the time, and the other two are always injured.
Savio, Gundogan, Ederson, Lewis, and Ortega

No point getting rid of homegrown, especially when he's our best defender and along with Gundo maybe the best role model for youngsters in the squad.

Khusanov will be miles better for a season learning from Stones.

I'm a little worried about this but probably not as much as Pep & Vianni.
Last season was a horror show when injuries struck & Reis has been allowed a loan because other defenders are now fit.
My concern though is (big if) we get a bunch of injuries again? It's fine loaning players out but I haven't seen players recalled in recent seasons so is this now not done/not allowed.
I'd have no problem with selling/loaning Phillips, Kovacic ( i rate), Gundogan(although he is brill influence for youngsters), academy players and a goalie. I have no idea about homegrowns etc and how many we have to lose as it stands.

26-28 is not a “big squad.” Injuries are inevitable and fixture congestion is sure to happen as well. At this point Rodri will be rested as much as possible so that’s one extra CM they have to carry. Haaland can’t handle the load of 4 competitions with the amount of abuse he gets and then you’ll always have tactical changes based on opponents. I’d guess there are always 3 injured players, one or two who just need a rest and then maybe a tactical decision to leave somebody out of the squad for a match. That’s 6 guys who won’t be available per match.

I think they're going for both, it'd be smart of them to secure CL football for the long term this year with the extra money they'll get.
Indeed it would. I hope we include a buy back and sell on clause. So if selling for 50, 65 mill bb 12 months, 70 bb 24 months etc. 30% sell on. Either way I'd be happy to keep him and develop the cracker he scored against Newcastle? into a weekly occurrence. Maybe Bernardo taught him that trick...his against Villa I maintain is one of the best goals I have ever seen. A cushioned volley from a 35 yard cross, from a goalie clearance. If that's not technically correect sue me.

Think we'll end up with 25, BettInelli probably won't be on the bench so might not be any left at home once we get into the season.

I think Chelsea recalled Chalobah from Palace last season so it can happen still. It will probably have a financial impact in doing so, I'm sure the loan contracts are written up with a withdrawal % in them as well. For example we've brought back players from clubs who weren't getting the game time and passed them onto other clubs in January.
