Who misses the football special?

Was a member of the London supporters branch in the 77-78 season. Still got the card as a memento! Used to get a huge discount for the special up from Euston. It was great. Then bus out from Aytoun St to the ground. Often felt like sleeping in on Saturdays mornings, because I was pretty tired from work, but once I was on that train with the other blues based in the south, the adrenalin would start flowing. Also used to get the specials over from Manchester to Liverpool and Leeds (when I didn't pick up the Finglands coach at the ground).
A whole other era…

Got the midnight mail train from town into London for Bournemouth in the mid eighties must of taken over seven hours stopping at every city , town , village and sorting office on the way . Four of us went on a family ticket Transport police got on at Basingstoke plain clothes as well let us go for the front we’d shown. Got the special back in half the time.
Haha , I remember the midnight mail train , a few of us used to catch that for the games in London . A few beers in town a few more on the train and get into Euston early morning then onto Spitalfields market to carry on drinking, Knave of Clubs if I remember rightly . Can’t remember much of any of the games just feeling like crap Sunday morning

It seemed to be a ‘football special’

Well the ones i’m on about kind of started off as schedule trains and then carried on as specials from Piccadilly, where they’d normally terminate, to the ground. Could have been a regular service to Warwick Road like the other guy says if it was pre ‘91 but that doesn’t really fit in with it been a very short walk to the ground.

Nothing better at this point than on a Sunday night looking forward to the next weekend being on the rattler going into London or somewhere else with your mates it’s what got us through the week. Brilliant times a learning curve for many of us wouldn’t swap the memories for nothing.
Great days not on pitch but off it too , we put the yards in . Many before me have done it and seriously think it it’s a contributing factor of maybe why where we are now.

Up the Blues.

Exactly. We were loyal.

Got that one time, 1965 maybe, arrived at Euston around 6 a.m. and walked down Tottenham Court Road with nothing open. All of us dying to pee and nowhere to go, one lad phoned the operator (100, remember that?), she recommended the water pools next to Centre Point.

I remember getting the Special to Brentford for the League Cup 1st leg (yeah the early rounds were 2 legs!!!).
Train stopped just outside Wilsden Junction because they needed to change the guard or driver.
Waited for ages and, because we were going to miss kick off, a few of us jumped down and started running across the tracks to find a taxi!!!!
Got shouts it was about to move so we tried to climb back up! Blimey they're higher than you think!
It didn't go for a good while.
Got to Brentford and the dibble made us walk to the ground with an escort. The game was well underway!
Got in about a minute before HT. We were already 2-0 down.
Ended up losing 2-1 I think!!!!!!
Beat Utd 5-1 4 days later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
