Who remembers Paul Futcher?

I'm not going to be able to answer the question because it's way before my time but I do have a quote for you from Craig Winstanley's Bleak and Blue :
Tony Book had understandably attempted to improve City's faltering defence. The major transfer activity involved a deal with Luton Town, a club with which City were particularly familiar after the League Cup epic of the previous season. There may have been some confusion in the City management when they contacted Luton Town expressing an interest in Futcher. Perhaps they recalled being impressed by a [emphasis in the original] Futcher but they couldn't remember which [emphasis in the original] Futcher. The outcome was that they bought both Futcher twins.

Paul Futcher, an England Under-21 international, was elegant, confident in possession of the ball, and never hurried. He gave every impression of being a superior kind of British central defender. Unfortunately he also had a seemingly inbuilt self-destruct mechanism that triggered just often enough to suggest that the general impression he gave was largely superficial. Brother Ron was a centre forward from whom little was expected apart from some cover for injuries.

Also, it's worth noting that Malcolm Allison was appointed the very next season and he systematically went about creating his own squad.

Paul futcher came for big money , but didnt live up to his transfer fee , i think his brother ron joined a few weeks later for a nominal fee , as a squad player , if you could compare them to modern day england players probably phil jones and danny welbeck , overrated and basically shite.

Bit before my time, but heard him on Blue Tuesday on GMR earlier, and all he was going on about was how it didn't quite work out for him at City (although he was a record signing for a defender at the time?)

Why didn't it work out, what's the script here?

Any of you older sorry more mature fans care to shed any light?
He had a twin, Ron. I actually can't remember if he played for us too.

Edit. Yes he did.
Yeah, he did. Also Rons son Ben plays for Bury.

Ron scored a hat trick for us

I remember Paul costing a load of cash and being a let down. I remember Ron scoring the hat trick against Chelsea.

I have no idea where they went after failing at City.

Not 100% but think Paul went to Oldham and Ron to NASL (Seattle?).

Mr Google prob. knows for sure.

I remember Ron scoring a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge in a 4-1 win, mind you Chelsea were pretty crap at the time!

Paul was a footballing CB, very good on the ball but as said a bit error prone.
We played Luton 3 times if my failing memory is correct in League cup draw home and away replay at Old Trafford when about eleven thousand turned up think we won 3-2 Paul Futcher was impressive in all 3 games which tempted us into signing him I think for the huge fee of 275k he was a skilled ball player but like others have said error prone remember him droppin a guy running out of the penalty area at Derby, thought his brother Ron scored all 4 at Chelsea that time when we were banned from the ground I was in seats that day its was a bit iffy to say the least. Ron earned his self legend status at the end of a game against Forrest at Maine Road for dropping Larry Lloyd admittedly he legged it after cracking him.
