I’ve never been overly impressed by him. Comes across as a tad light on policy and strikes me as Johnson minus the personality. Whenever he’s interviewed, he trots out soundbites with aplomb, but the moment he’s grilled on something detailed he falls to pieces, so PMQs would be absolute agony to watch. There are plenty on the right who recognize a kindred spirit, however, so he could make the second round.
