Who should the captain be ?

As for he clamour for Dias to be cap, I feel he and Walker have the same problem; they're vocal, but not masters of their own positions.
Oh now you’ve done it!

I feel the same way about Dias sometimes. Was never a big fan of players doing all the rah-rah back slapping and high-giving when I played and find it very performative at times.

I have no problem gee-ing a player up or letting him know he did well, but not thrilled by the very outward nature of it all.

And, as you say, apart from his blocking, which is exceptional, his positional play and marking of the CF is not always as good as it could be.

For me, it’s Rodri > KDB > Dias, if we are looking for Captains. As a dark horse, even Erling does a lot of player/team support and trying to gee up the lads.

Dias is a captain in how he plays anyway, he isn't going to play any differently if he's got an armband on.

I'd want Kev as captain, purely because after all his time here he deserves to be the one lifting some trophies, but as things stand we'd need to improve a hell of a lot for that to be relevant anyway...

Leadership is a quality very separate from skill and playing ability. Defenders are more often chosen as Captains. This is due to them having a perfect view of everything going on further up the pitch - seeing the full picture.

Dias is the most vocal and an obvious leader when he plays. As great as Rodri was - and may be again - and KDB was, they've never lead the team in the same way as Dias, or Vincent Kompany earlier.

Dias is number 1 for me.

Dias must be fucking fuming.

It’s like at work, having a boss who’s completely shite and you end up just doing their job for them anyway, and having your colleagues come to you for leadership all the time as they too know the ‘boss’ on paper is clueless.

Personally, I'm flabbergasted that you put Dias and Kompany in the same sentence!

Most of the senior members that have been longest with Guardiola are talkers on the pitch.

However, there's very few of them that have grabbed the team by the scruff of the neck and dragged them to victories. Kompany, De Bruyne and Rodri have done just that. Before that Silva, Fernandinho with Aguero and Touré, to some capacity.

I'm happy to change my mind when Dias can join that list. Right now, Dias needs Stones or Akanji to offset his deficiencies of positioning and concentration on the pitch.

It's the same reason why I don't think Walker is suitable either.

Captain needs to be someone who is going to be here for a while imo it's dias all day for me and I'd love to see Phil captain city 1 day.

I’m not sure Phil quite has the highly vocal authority streak in him. A bit like Kev in that respect, he seems like quite a shy guy.

Captain needs to be someone who can dish out a bollocking and kick people up the arse. Dias has that in spades.

In fact in the current squad he’s probably the only player who has it in him, which is also a bit of a worry.

He certainly demands his fellow defenders to be in the right position.
