However, how does the position first team coach sound? You would have a more active role within the team, which would be ideal with your player/manager experience.

If it is unlikely that Mourinho will join us the we shouldn't chase him....

I think Rijkaard would do a good job but whether or not he would appreciate being considered as a second choice could have an impact on his decision. If we thought he was a serious option I think we should make a play for him now... let him know that regardless of anything Hughes is a gonner and we want him.

I understand he has some Inland Revenue issues in Italy and could not take a position until after 30th June in any case, that'd be a blow for us but one I think it'd be worth the club taking.
