Who was City's best ever goalie?

Bert was the best I've seen. When City were relegated to the old second division, Bert didn't play for the first team until Easter. My dad, an evertonian, always said it was worth the admission price alone to watch Bert and came to the game against Norwich. Bert made a astonishing fingertip save, when the applause died down, my dad said Frank Swift would have caught that, much nodding of heads and 'your right there' comments from the old uns around us. He always said Swifty was the best keeper he had ever seen and that Peter Doherty was the best player.

Big Joe Corrigan. Does anyone remember a save he made against Alan Clarke at Leeds in FA cup in 77. It was out of this world. That year motd had a save of the season and Joe came 2nd to a routine tip over the bar from 25yrds by alex stepney.First time i became aware of a media bias against City. Can anyone get that clip as i'd love to see it again

Is that the game we lost 1.0 Trevor Cherry scored i think, my young face was devastated that day

Me too if it was the one where Joe Royle did a little chip and it skimmed the top of the cross bar near the end, save of the season, that takes me back.

yeah we lost 1 nil , not sure the scorer but if my memory serves me right Joe got into a fight with a leeds fan that day

Being 21, I have to say Nicky Weaver. I was a keeper myself so I absolutely idolized him.

-- Thu Nov 25, 2010 3:55 pm --

Being 21, I have to say Nicky Weaver. I was a keeper myself so I absolutely idolized him.

We've had some good goalies over the years but Joe Corrigan gets my vote. Hope I'll be saying that about another Joe in 20 years time.

in my lifetime its big joe corrigan
my dad reckons big bert trautmann
and my grandad reckoned frank swift.

in my opinion hart has the potential to be as good as corrigan

Best goalkeeper i've seen for us probably weaver the defence he had in front of him wasn't exactly the best either!!

Big joe (corrigan) for me while i've been watching his performance at wembley 1st game 81 cup final was outstanding would have never got passed him that day without tommys shoulder. My dad always said Frank Swift was the only bloke he ever saw who could pull a football out of the air and stop a shot 1 handed without dropping the ball. so corrigan for me and Swift from a blue no longer with us.
