Who was/is the best tv Detective?

Exeter Blue I am here said:
1. Lester Freamon (The Wire)
2. Bunk (The Wire)
3. Colombo
4. The Gene Genie (Life on Mars)
5. Sipowicz (NYPD Blue)
6. Det Sgt Chisholm (Minder)......"Jones!"
7. Holder (The Killing USA)

Another good list but Detective Sarah Lund in Forbrydelsen (The Danish Killing) over Holder every day of the week and Bunk should be top of the list. I'd add Detective Mick Belker from Hill St Blues. I like Morse & Lewis and Regan & Carter over Chisholm.

Morse for me

Looks a bit dated nowadays but I love how he comes across as the well educated and mysterious cop

The whole ambient atmosphere of Oxford in summer and his old Jag I really like also.

Morse for me as well
I lived in Oxford in the mid 80's so i might be a tad bias

We moved to the Oxford area (from Macc) in 1990 due to my job relocating to Marlow in Bucks and our decision to live near Oxford was partly inspired by watching Morse.

Sledge Hammer.

End. Of. Thread.

His complex attempts at resolving of his own personal issues mixed with the juxtaposition of having to deal with the same issues in the lawless people he comes up against makes for compelling television. One feels that David Rasche drew on real life personal experiences when playing the role and it shows in spades. Anne-Marie Martin plays the foil to perfection drawing from her own loveless marriage to Michael Crichton and her tough Canadian upbringing.
