Why are England so toothless as an international team?

Part of the problem is still picking players on reputation or the media calling for them to be in the squad, there is as it stands at least 4-5 players who have been injured or carrying injuries yet have been selected for the squad why..squad should be selected going on form for their clubs .Also players being picked because they play for certain clubs, the Italians are now a perfect example picking players who have had good seasons regardless which clubs they play for,oh and lastly the manager he’s totally out of his depth regards tactics and formations.

Not sure i agree really at the moment. With the exception of Sterling, who hasnt had good seasons? Everyone was shouting for Foden to start, Mount and James just won the CL, Stones and Walker had a great season, Shaw had a good season, Trippier won la liga, Rice and Phillips had an excellent season for their clubs, Kane top scorer and highest assists in the PL.

These aren't players coming into this tournament on reputation, these are players that played in CL finals, title winning teams, starred for their clubs. For me the problem lies directly with Southgate having zero idea what to do with them. He has no idea what his best 11 are, what formation to play to get the best out of them and on the whole will just stumble along until we get knocked out.

Italy for example know exactly what their best 11 are. They have a way of playing that Mancini has developed over the last year or so and now the players know what their jobs are, style of play and we all know Mancini, god help them if they dont do it. Imagine Southgate trying to go mad at some of his players, they would just look him up and down and tell him to fuck off.

You first paragraph is so true but all those players you mentioned have high quality/ world class players alongside them in their club sides.

That is the difference, for the City , Chelsea and Liverpool players, playing for England is a huge step down in terms of the talent in the team.

Yeah totally agree with that, but i think it shows we actually have good players and the manager has picked the players in form.

Unfortunately Southgate is clueless. Take the full back situation. What other manager in the whole tournament will change his full backs in every game and play a RB at LB when you have two LB's on the bench. The only reason he is doing that is because he made the stupid decision to pick 6 full backs in his squad. Everyone called him out on it and now he is trying to prove his point. He's fucking clueless and thats the reason england will be out pretty soon.

As has been mentioned many times the team so rag and dipper focused its untrue.

Its frightening to think the way forward according to Southgate and the FA is to bring Henderson and Slabhead back..... really?

If ever there was a way to weaken an already shit side .... there you have it.

Part of the problem methinks is that a lot of these players look so good in their club sides as they're surrounded by genuine world class foreign talent.
Put them together and they don't quite have that x-factor.

Giving players nicknames like "the Yorkshire Pirlo" after one 8/10 performance is also a bit daft.

But Gareth is a lovely fella, nice hair, wears a waistcoat well and is always polite.
