as a player, Pierce gave no clue as to what he would be like as an anaestheti/manager, i never figured out how Clough won two Euro cups. Lilleshall was supposed to be the epicentre of how to be a successful manager(at a price !!) . Inspiring the players, backing them, knowing when to kick arse, not sure those skills can be learned. Shankly, Mercer Busby and a few others seemed to have them, but back then, football clubs were nothing like what they are now, off the pitch more so. One thing is apparent, a successful playing career does not gurantee a successful managerial career.
