Why are there NO openly Gay Footballers?

He's not my hero at all, I am not really a guy that has heroes and idols in football. Football is mostly entertainment for me and I don't find most of footballers as someone who should be my heroes in any way or form.

He wouldn't change a bit of my view on homosexuality and would be the same player as he was but I'm sure he would get some kind of abuse, at least indirectly. Balkan is not really gay friendly area.

Lot of people, media etc.. would probably saying it's his thing, it's perfectly normal etc.. but most of people still wouldn't buy it.

Sadly I also think some footballers are worried about losing endorsements because of it. No teenage girl is going to want to buy stuff endorsed by a gay.

I thought Joe Hart was gay as he seems to be good at handling balls ;)

Sorry couldn't resist

however why does it matter if a player is gay its not gonna make them a better player is it. I think in society today there would be a few mindless idiots who would abuse a player for being gay but the majority would just accept it.

This all day...

I have thought some players have come across as being Camp, possibly gay, but have chosen career before their sexuality.

I mean for all we know, Giggs could be gay, and this whole issue with his brother's mrs is a smokescreen to prove he isn't gay.

The game seriously needs a strong character, someone who is one of the lads, doesn't give a fuck, and would be openly gay.
Not the traditional camp scrawny types with that fake accent they use... A proper mans man who just happens to fancy other men.

Why do they need to come out?
Why do we need to know?
Will it make him a better player if he tells the world what he gets upto in his own private world.

Didn't Graham Le Saux say he was bullied by fellow footballers because they 'thought he was gay' and he said it was unbearable? I think if there are footballers who are gay and are not outing themselves, it would be mostly to do with fellow peers and professionals.

EDIT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16923518

Other players thought Le Saux was gay because he read a broadsheet newspaper, liked art and studied.

It would give gay youths a role model in the most popular sport in the world and possibly encourage them to feel better about themselves, as many are plagued by self-loathing and depression that has led to abnormal teen suicide rates amongst them. I knew a lesbian girl in high school who hanged herself for those very reasons.

Why do they need to be gay to be a role model. Many straight kids suffer depression and self loathing as well.
