Why are there NO openly Gay Footballers?

I do feel for any gay footballers and there agonising choices to keep it under wraps, after all, there must be some.

I think television has to take some of the blame. Look at gay tv presenters as just one example, flamboyant and typical in their stereotype. So why would a footballer come out with that kind of public consciousness?

I don't blame them.

I don't care if anyone is gay it's not my business.

If City signed a gay player it wouldn't bother me in the slightest as long as he was good enough.

But the circus surrounding anything groundbreaking like that would/could/might be devastating for the club.

Why is someones sexual preference important anyway? Are we really THAT shallow?

Thats a great post, never thought of it like, the TV seem to be stereotypical for sure

Hasn't Gareth Thomas shown how easily stereotypes can be overcome? I doubt any footballer would mess with someone like him.

Because It's wrong.

If everybody was gay, There would be no humans left.

Contrary to what you might believe/have been told/read in the Mail, gay people don't want the whole of the population to be gay.

Believe it or not, sex can be a bit more than procreation. If you've only ever had sex in order to have kids, you're missing out.[/quote]

Just fucking brilliant.

I never understand this drive to have gays or asians in football and more black managers. Surely it is up to the individual. If a gay man wants to stay quiet about his sexuality, it's entirely his business. Those wishing for an openly gay player are missing the point that it's the player whose life would be turned upside down and won't really give a fuck about the nods of approval from the more civilised amongst us when West Ham, Millwall or Leeds fans are chanting obscene things at them.

The most ridiculous thing recently is this "Rooney Law" from the US where a club has to interview a black manager for the manager's job. Clubs will just take the piss. You'll have Tottenham saying "OK, our shortllist is Guus Hiddinck, Jose Mourinho, Slaven Bilic and Carlton Palmer." We'll all know that the black nomination won't have a cat in hell's chance of getting the job but they'll be expected to go through the motions to "help the game".

Even now, some fifteen years after he retired from football, Carlton Palmer is still being used as a benchmark for ineptitude!

You would think with all our money we could afford to buy some gays. Is it time for UEFA to step in and insist that every team should have a minimum of say 3 blatant gays as part of their squad?
This could be worked like the homegrown players rule, although it could inflate the price of gay footballers beyond the reach of smaller clubs and teams like us and chelsea would ruin football by signing all the gays.
Maybe we should aim to bring gay players through our own gay academy, or persuade some of our existing squad to bend over and take it? Mario always seems up for a laugh.

Dont Arsenal have any gay players we can buy?

We bought the only male lesbian they had.
