Why are we not scoring goals?

If you look at the Opta stats, we’re not creating as many chances as last season, but over 9 games v 38, this doesn’t mean a thing. Kev is a big miss, and we lost Rodri for two PL games, which made a difference. Also with so many games Pep has to manage the players’ fitness so if we are comfortably winning he will substitute key players to consolidate. We are in a better position than at this time last season, results are what count, not goals.

Missing Gundogan, Kev and Mahrez hot on the heels of Sterling and Jesus the season before. New players are still fitting in, this season will be hard to win much IMO, but next year should see us scoring much more.

Over the last ten PL seasons, City have been top scorers for nine of those seasons. Now (although I admit there.s a long way to go) we are lying sixth in terms of goals scored.

We used to be scoring goals for fun, but now it seems they are hard to come by. One goal in the last two away defeats, and against Brighton we scored two in the first twenty miutes then ran out of steam.

Where have the goals gone? And why?
The Good Sheikh has economised on brown envelopes and the stuff that goes in 'em.

Over those years we’ve had and now lost naturally creative players in Leroy Sané, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gündoğan, Kevin de Bruyne is injured and the other players we have are not particularly naturally creative.

Next Summer we really need to be finding some natural creators for midfield.

Mateo Kovačić, while he does carry the ball well, doesn’t look to have a creative bone in his body.

And nobody outside our two strikers is a goalscorer. We’ve lost two players in Mahrez and Gündoğan who score about 30 goals a season combined. I’m not sure we’ll get 30 goals this season out of Foden, Bernardo, Grealish, Kovačić, Nunes, Doku and Bobb combined (so far we’ve got 5 goals from all of them combined in 14 games).

Cole Palmer was the only one who scored for us in either the Community Shield or Super Cup and he’s gone.

I raised this issue in other threads, I do worry a bit as well.

we need much more goals from the likes of Grealish, Bernardo, Kovacic, Nunes but none of these even try much to score.
Mahrez, Gundo scored a lot and assisted a lot overall past few years.

KDB creating chances out of nothing also a big miss and scoring some clutch goals.

Foden so far also not hitting the right numbers, he has scored 1 goal in PL and started 8 out of 9 games so far.
he scored 11 last season in PL, will need to start scoring few doubles to make sure he can at least reach that number.

so we have Grealish, Kovacic, Bernardo, Nunes hardly scoring, plus Foden who isnt playing badly but just not adding the goals so far.
that puts a huge pressure on Doku, Alvarez, Haaland to come up with all the goals they would need to score and also score some more to balance the lost goals from Mhrez, Gundo, KDB.
Doku is raw and will score some but his finishing aint top yet

the way it is going so far, Doku would need 10-15 goals, Alvarez 15-20 and Haaland 35 as the others are just lacking goals.Doku imo does well getting close to 10 in 1st season, Alvarez should hit 15, Haaland as long as doesnt get injured will be close to 30 imo, not sure if above it again (PL only).

all this would be enough if Grealish would add 8 goals, Bernardo 6 goals, Kovacic 5/6, Nunes 5/6, Foden 12/15, Rodri 5/6 none of these will be any close to these imo.

Im afraid Haaland will have quite a few more games where defenders isolate him successfully with him not seeing the ball too much and we are unable to play the ball to him at all. so others need to step up and so far only Alvarez is the one stepping up and no one else...
