Why did we sign Dzeko?

We signed Dzeko because he is fucking quality. That's why. We signed him because when he hits real form he will be close to the best stiker in the league. We signed him because he will score a hatful and will be close to unplayable.

Yes but we already have two strikers of the same ability as him.

Lol I rate Dzeko extremely highly - but where does he fit in??

Nowhere - we could have signed a complete midfielder for that money.

-- Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:03 pm --

If we hadn't signed Balotelli he would have been logical but we did and now we have too many striker (that deserve/expect to play week in week out)

the way Dzeko is playing reminds me of when berba signed for the rags, quality player who dosn't seem to fit the system & is shot of confidence, he slows play down an awful lot by doing simple things wrong, mainly losing the ball.

Dzeko's movement also seems poor at the minute and the teams suffering. just hope he finds his form and everything comes together soon

I must be watching different Blues games because I am really not seeing that many lost balls and bad passess by Edin as you are. Strange. As the matter of fact one for one - I really think he is losing fewer balls than either balotelli or tevez in the last few. Watch replay and count them if you will.

We signed him because he is a top European footballer and a very good goal scorer , he may have looked absent today but that is not down to himself he got no service from anywhere on the pitch . If you get Tevez and Balotelli injured we have no one but Jo , there is the other reason as to why we signed Dzeko , but primarily we signed him because he is a quality player who deserved a quality club .

OMG - people's tendency on this forum to blame Dzeko for everything (including blatant lack of creative midfield) when this team struggles is u-n-b-e-l-e-i-v-a-b-l-e.

Dzeko is a fine addition to this club. Who should be next to Silva next year is what you should be asking yourself.

Team that has guys like Kompany, Lescott, Zabaleta, and Toure in the back 4 should NOT be playing with 2 plus midfielders every game and wander why we're not playing pretty football. Mancini so far is really not cutting it for me. And then today he takes Dzeko off and adds ANOTHER CDM in Vieira? You kidding?

I think I might just be done posting on this forum cause this is just insane...there is no football talk on here, just groups of fans favoring one player over another...

Good post.Any striker needs a semblance of service. It's hard to give a decent service when the team is set up the way we were today.

It's not just the 3 defensive type of midfield players selected but more the way it seems they were asked to play. We know Yaya can be very good when he is given licence to get forward and past the strikers but that wasnt the way it was set up today.

Mancini put 3 attacking players out there and it seemed he hoped those 3 would do the business. Well they didn't

Two really good posts here. Mancini seems to have set us up to play for a draw, with his seven men back/three men up formation. At home to Fulham, after all the players we have brought in in the last couple of years, this is unforgivable, even allowing for injuries. He has not bought a single creative, midfield play-maker, though,in Ireland, he did let one go. Today we were crying out for a player like this as we always are.

Mancini took a big step forward when he stopped playing a 7-man defence recently, but we let in a few goals and it looks as if he has panicked and reverted to type. ( As regards those goals, he would do well to look at the performances of our defenders rather than numbers of bodies at the back; vision and concentration seems to be where we are lacking there.)

Sorry, but I've given up on this bloke. He's wasting good players.

He is also the record holder for most assists in the bundesliga, in one season!

Don't get me wrong he is clearly a quality player but we didn't need a striker.

Why did we sign him?
because sheikh mansour has enough money to buy one of the best striker in europe

I think its a fair question

they either need silva and tevez to play behind dzeko

or dzeko is sitting on the bench while tevez is the main striker

or a third option to wait for some quality wingers, like Adam

Dzeko does not get enough balls from balotelli or tevez...it's just to clogged with strikers not willing to pass

Those saying we should've broke the bank for Fernando Torres need to understand two things:

1. We were outfoxed by Chelsea. They waited till we had got Dzeko, not even hinting they were in the market for a striker. When we got Dzeko they approached Torres reps and said if they bid for him would he make it known to LFC he wanted to leave and if necessary put in a Transfer request. When he indicated to them he would, the process started with only one outcome- Torres to Chelsea. Chelsea did not want to get into a bidding war with us so they waited, this is also why they did it in Jan and did not wait till the summer.

2. Torres WOULD NOT have come to us. For the last time understand this. He wanted CL football asap. We are not in it YET!! And there are no guarantees. Torres has always liked Chelsea and has admitted he has wanted to join them for the last 18 months. Two minutes after his transfer was completed his website had a Chelsea banner etc and recently on his Personal social site he has posted pics of his young Daughter and baby son in CHELSEA kits. Something he did not even do when he was with the Pool. Chelsea have been poor recently BUT their club is a winning club. They've won the League cup, Premier League and FA Cups and been in CL finals. People forget Chelsea were in the Champions League BEFORE Abramovich bought them. That is why he did buy them.
