Was being the word, and Abbey hey 30-40 years ago was considered a decent place to move to, sadly it's a bit rougher nowadays.

I went to Abbey Hey school between 1957-62....Headmistress was Miss Pilkington, still have all my school reports...lol! My teacher was Miss Rankin.

I can remember watching Bellamy Court flats opposite the school entrance being built, (now they have mostly been demolished), there was a WW2 concrete pill box opposite the entrance to Aysgarth Ave where I lived, a Co op opposite the entrance to St George's church, Catlow's corner shop opposite Johnstones paints and Parry's cake shop nearby.

Wright Robinson's school was a load of waste land, and Gorton cross Street was bustling with shops, Phil Green's hardware, Wheelers record shop, Freeman Hardy Willis shoes, on Hyde Road there was Koffler's electrical, Alex Donaldson's sports shop, Alex Donaldson played for City in the first ever game at Maine Road...Belle Vue zoo and The Lake Hotel and Essoldo cinema opposite the Greyhound track.
