Why hasn't Pep got a knighthood?

Actually, the reason i posted this was that I had to endure some of the beckham documentary tonight with my family.

Whilst I took a sinister pleasure in moaning and insulting anyone related to the rags in it, what I did notice were two things;

1. The accolade bacon face got for winning the treble, resulting in a knighthood.

2. The absolute polar opposite media reaction to both the possibility and ultimate reality of them completing the treble by winning the CL compared to ours.

On the latter point, there were scenes in the programme where they showed bbc coverage on the day of the final.

The sentiment was very much that of 'this team is representing our country and are hopefully going to win the trophy for the country'. It was absolute 6 o'clock news headlining content, not sports section coverage. It was almost like war time coverage of the troops going to battle.

Fast forward 24 years or so, to our even more impressive achievement, and coverage couldn't have been any more different, amidst a backdrop of 'financial cheating claims' the sentiment and coverage was, at best tolerant, at worse, down right vindictive and hateful.

Really reminded me just how bitter and twisted football in this nation is and always will be.

But the rags and most neutrals will just point to our 'paranoia' for pointing this out
If Martin Edwards ever donned a ghutrah, United’s coverage would have been much like ours.

I must say, I love the media treatment we get, I love being the anti-establishment sub-culture. I never want to have sycophantic coverage like the Redshirts get.

LOL knighthood. That needs clamour from the media, proposal from the leaders of the PL, a campaign. They hate us so.. I dont even know why its a question.

He deserves one no doubt. Changed football more than saf ever did.

If he's offered one and accepts, he won't be known as Sir unless Spain becomes a commonwealth country, or gets UK citizenship. He can use the post nominals KBE at the end of his name, but not the title Sir.

It's a common misconception up there with a tomato is a vegetable, that Bob Geldof is Sir Bob. Ireland is not a commonwealth country and he's still an Irish citizen. Terry Wogan wasn't a Sir from the beginning of his Knighthood, he used KBE as post nominals and only became Sir after his UK citizenship got approved.

Pep would not want one if offered anyway. The achievement was right, not the colour of the shirt as far as Manchester is concerned. Not even Bob Paisley has one for three European Cups, there the name of the city wasn't correct. Clough has two in a row..... no knighthood although the shirt was red, while Matt Busby got one immediately after his first and only European Cup and their only trophy that season. The shirt and name of the club both ticked the boxes.

It is only the raggy scum that have had knighted managers for winning in Europe.

Short answer; there is absoltely no reason for him not to have been given a knighthood.

No exemption whatsover. Services to English Football. I'd say that's an achievement.
The growth of the English team in lower ranks and the first team has his finger prints all over it. His influence is undeniable.

I noticed that the apathy towards our win and frankly found that it was despicable at times with the times Alison Rudd saying it was hollow on Games podcast. I switch off and found overseas coverage was on another level. There is no paranoia it does exists what you are saying and it we reached a point where no team ever has that there nothing to throw at the club these days because of our continual success. This has change the way I consume media and glad our doc is being sold to netflix.

I won't ever forget the ITV trailer of their matches with the tagline "ITV is United!".

Made my skin crawl and they never represented the country, just their supporters. I stopped watching TFI Friday cos that ginger twat kept spurring them on to do it and even got David Beckham in the studio audience a few days later. Evans even gifted him a keyring of the European Cup and got Victoria on there as a guest.
