Maybe he should worry about their home support. They will struggle to get 33k tonight.

They've got good away support, shame the attendences they get at home though are pretty average

He can afford to. After all, they did have 45,000 in the Platt Lane when we sent 'em down one year!

I argued that with him, and he said that Sunderland's a poor area and a lot of fans live in Manchester and that we're a top 4 club so should have better support blah blah blah.

Tell him to stop coming up with shit excuses

I think sunderland do have a far better following than us, i remember watching motd this year and they filled the end at brum, we took half of it

Sunderlands away support is up there with the best...

They sell out almost every away. They sold out 1100/1200 of their allocation at Pompey in midweek.

Such was their demand for tickets at Fulham last season they ended up getting an additonal 1000 tickets whcih then sold out in no time.

Our away support completely slumped under Pearce (and rightly so) and has never recovered and shows no signs of.

Not sure how it all went wrong, but now we are average at best.

To be fair, Sunderland does have a small population compared to ours. In total, Sunderland has a population of around 280k, which means 1 in 7 people would have to go to the football to sell the ground out regularly. When i was up there during the Quinny, Phillips and Michael Gray days, the centre would be a ghost town on a matchday as everyone was at the football.

Manchester as an area has a population of around 2.5million people. Yes, we do have a lot of football clubs that cover that, but it should be easier for city to attract new support to the ground, and the odd older supporter whose reason for not going anymore is that football is too expensive when ticket discounts are offered.

I'd say cost and timing are the two main things. There's some reserach somewhere that says City supporters have the third lowest average salary on any set of supporters so that won't help.

Our away form has been pretty shit for the last few seasons which will have put a few people off - a couple of years of decent results would probably help.

The loyalty point system doesn't help as it's almost impossible to get seats together as you never know if games will sell out. I know a people who've stopped going away 'cos they can't be arsed with it anymore.

why do people who aren't going come on here and try and justify it , probably better not say anything - sorry just a bit of a bugbear of mine

Any idea how many we've sold? Been told today just over 2100 don't know if that's confirmed though.
<br [3019] /> <br [3020] />Didn't think we would get that near - whi told you that ?
just a mate who bought his ticket today, wouldn't trust it though.

We have gash support, thats why. We are looking at possibly our best season for years and this could shape our future but people make excuses. Most of us have got mums but thats a shady excuse unless they are ill or old and frail. If it was UTD away on mothers day do you think we would sell out?

We get seats together for everygame - sometimes 7 seats if we need them. I simply write to tik off with season card numbers and they allocate the seats all together when the person with lowest points qualifies. If tickets sell out before lowest points is reached, seats are allocated minus lowest tik. Do this every away game without any problem. Personally dont think the loyalty points system has anything to do with poor attendances at most away games as tiks usually go on open sale. If your a season care holder or city card holder you are able to get tiks to any away game apart from arse, rags, liverpool and chelsea (only since we have taken smaller allocation). This season Burnley may be added to the list as its 1st time we played there in Prem.
I think the main problem's are cost and shitty ko times - 4pm on sunday isnt great.....oh and i agree that stuart pearce bless him still has alot to answer for, some of the away games under stu were torturous.
However, IMO sunderland is a great away day, usually good atmosphere, some good pubs in the centre and always a good laugh. Bring it on!!
