Why is there not a statue of Yaya?

Mike Doyle will always be,and rightly so a legendary figure in our history
This despite the fact he jumped at the chance to talk to matt busby about a move to utd.
Now....no one ever talks about this fact damaging his legacy, but the truth is ,as set out in his own biography,he wanted leave City for our bitterest rivals utd....credit to Doyle for his honesty!

Now....how does that off the pitch issue compare with Yaya wanting a cake and being done for drink driving........?

My argument is...stick to the football! Off the field issues do not come into it...why keep bringing up off the field issues when the issue is Football.
There should definitely be a statue of Yaya, for he was the heartbeat of our side for years,
As was Colin Bell and Mike Doyle...
Id have sanctioned a statue for Yaya straight after the Newcastle away mid week game we had to win to get that 2012 Title...I was there that night and you couldn't have a better example of how one man invigorated the whole team, scoring not one but two goals to smash the Geordies on their own back yard.
Legend!!
So you stick to football no matter what they do then? Should Giggs have one at old trafford (he’s not even the Premier League Hall of fame despite winning it more than anyone)? If Barton was shit hot rather than more shit would you be sound with him having one?

You mention 2 incidents where he was a prick but you have missed out the most serious thing he did. The ludicrous accusation that Pep wasn’t playing him when he was shot to bits because Pep was racist. The tosser won’t ever be getting his statue for that alone and rightly so.

It was a Sunday 1.30 KO.

2010-2015 he was great - look at the goals. thats what i was referring to. compare the injury records if you want he did not stay fit like Yaya did. again im not knocking Dave but people on here are making the argument he was miles better. for the team we had especially in the early days Yaya was the talisman.

and

Yaya was a fantastic player, I don't need to look at the goals, good to see you have brought it down to 5 seasons now though, which is about right, he dropped off markedly at the end, attitude and fitness wise.

David Silva made the team tick; if you don't understand that, then there can hardly be any further conversation on the matter.

The one criticism is that David Silva didn't score enough goals for a guy with that skill level, his assists column doesn't even reflect on his performance either, he was the guy who assisted the assister with a fine through ball for Sane/Sterling to square it into the middle for a goal, the better pass was his the majority of the time.

That is what made that team tick. Yaya had moments of brilliance, both of which were needed.

Football is all about opinions mate, it would be shit if we all thought the same.As I said earlier, loved Yaya, he was unplayable on his day. I was having a heated debate the other day with a fellow blue, I said Haaland was nowhere near the level of Sergio and he nearly combusted.
That's a tough one, we all love Aguero but if Haaland stays the full length of his contract, he looks likely to shatter every record Aguero set.

Both strikers but they are totally different types of player.

My opinion of Yaya ..is from what I saw with my own eyes on the football pitch pal.
Yours ..it seems ,is tainted by media gossip relating to off the field matters...such a shame.
Talk talk; )

it is about getting a statue, not how good a player he was on the pitch, I'm not even sure you could find a single post in this entire thread that slags his football abilities off.

As for the last bit, media gossip, said like you believe it never even happened, fuckig hell man.

It’s a difficult one this. However, we can’t have statues for everyone so for me, the criteria included being a great player for us AND being a credit off the pitch during and after the length of contract. Yaya ticks the first part but there’s no doubt he made waves off the pitch. We can’t rely on the media but there’s no doubt some of what was reported was true & you can’t call Pep a racist and expect a statue

Some say Yaya tainted his club image with a lack of fan engagement and other personal stuff. These aren't my place to say. He was an incredibly gifted player and stitched the transition from Hughes to Mancini to Pellegrini marvelously. Under Pep, only briefly glimpses and a feud that often seems to snake around the scenes.

i said he was the fulcrum for 5 seasons and you then whipped out a timeline which undersold his contribution.

Bobby bought Yaya in his first summer as our manager, along with Merlin, Aleks and Boateng.

Hughes had nothing to do with Yaya's arrival.

Well, you'd know all about under-selling somebody's contribution.

The guy isn't getting a statue, get the fuck over it, take a picture of his mosaic and frame it for your wall, that's all he's getting.

hahaha. cant handle debates resorts to expletives. the intellect of a luddite, alf

The better question is... why would any City fan want a statue of Yaya? Yes, a great footballer, but a total ****. Hostile towards our club and manager, demanding excessive wages, and a detriment to team chemistry. Does anyone really want a statue of such a player - no matter how good he was at football?

Look... my favorite ever City player was Tevez. Bar none.

But Tevez crossed the line with our club, refusing to enter the game when Mancini wanted him to. This forever ruined Tevez's reputation for our club... and though I still both love and hate Tevez, there's no way I'd want a statue of Tevez at our club. So too, Toure.. but even more so for me.

Arguably that foundation squad under Hughes allowed Yaya to join and walk into a pretty stable and suitable squad. I didn't write that clearly. My apologies

If we were to hand out statues because of being a club legend, then outside the Etihad would be overrun with them

Yes, Yaya would have been top of many people's lists, but I feel something was missing in his later years
The spat about the cake and Pep's fall-out clouded his City career, and it did for him

City are going to have to come up with new ideas for honouring players and managers ? Bars and Concourse, maybe Walkways, Streets, after the Scot Carson Bench, where is there room ? maybe Carparks
The Joey Barton Cigar Room?
