Just when I thought I was out...they pulled me bac
Yes Barca should have been given a spot-kick in the first half and yes they scored a perfectly legit goal that was chalked off. But just concentrating on the baffling decision not to award us with a pen I'm really curious if anyone has an inkling as to WHY this decision was reached?

Because the ref saw the offence clear as day. And it's not even up for debate whether Pique collided with Dzeko and took his legs away.

So it is not down to interpretation surely? The ref couldnt have believed for example that Dzeko made a meal of the challenge.

So what was his thought process?

The only possibility for me - and its a reach - is that he perceieved Pique to be falling after losing his balance and thus accidentally collided with Dzeko. So there was no intent.

Anyone else got a theory because, aside from the above, I'm fucking stumped.

plus pique was pulling his jersey and the shot hit busquets on the arm.

He didn't want to award the penalty, simple as that... whatever his thought process was last night with every decision was absolutely woeful... was I right in hearing he reffed a world cup game and made an pigs ear of it aswell?

Euros between Italy and Germany as well, gave a bullshit penalty to the Germans and nonsensical decisions the whole game (let Balo away with murder in that game)

Yet we got lucky on several occasions. Bottom line is he was poor for both sides.

Even if there was no intent, it should still be a pen, surely? Not entirely up to speed with current rule wordings etc., but I don't think there has to be intent for a foul in (or outside for that matter) the penalty area.

The fact that it was so blatant, and that the ref so blatantly saw it, is what I found so galling. Yes, they should have had a pen, but in real time it looked like Lescott had won the ball cleanly - being overseas, I had the luxury of not watching on sky, and on the local coverage here, there was no comment on the incident as it happened, and they didn't even show a replay until about 5 minutes later, once they'd obviously been tipped that it was, in fact, a foul.
