I know there are certain principles at play here but we could be in trouble if we don't bolster our squad so why dont we, for this window only, throw the principles out the window and pay what West Ham want for Bellamy, offer 30 million for Santa Cruz - see how quickly Blackburn change their mind then.

The reality is that if we pay a 50% premium on all the players then it desn't make a huge diff on players like Bellamy but it turns £80m into £120m for Kaka...

Well said, pay what players are worth west ham will be beggin us to buy ther shit come 2nd feb. Give em nothing and move on to other targets.

We do it a few times, and clubs will think they can get away with it when they quote us prices in the future.

ADUG might have - to all intents and purposes - bottomless pockets, but they are businessmen first and foremost, and highly unlikely to want to be screwed over. The wealth should be a strength in the negotiation process, not a weakness for other clubs to prey upon.

Well, it's not about paying stupid money...but...this heal dragging over a few million quid is beginning to irk me slightly. If the club are trying to prove they won't be ripped off, then they may well be cutting off their nose to spite their own faces...it's clear we need players in certain positions, and it's clear we need points on the board...

It's a big IF, but IF, Bellamy and RSC are Hughes' number 1 targets, then the difference between 15 million and 18 million, or the difference between 10 million and 13 million is minuscule...

Don't get me wrong...I'll be fucking gutted if that's the best we can come up with...the comment is not about the quality of the players, but the timescales involved. We have a match on Saturday, and I'd rather have had new players IN today, so they had most of the week to train.

agree totally. can't understand why we're bothering with other clubs in the league. there's a ton of talent abroad, Silva, Lahm, P. Cannavaro, Podolski, etc, that play at the top level in germany and spain and, not being galaticos, they might be interested in a move. paying top prices to clubs that are competing with us is a non starter as it in turn gives them cash to spend. true, not all players from abroad adapt but some will and we'll get a lot more for our money. get ten quality overseas players in rather than going for three prem players. however, saying that, i def would go for upson for top dollar. bellamy and parker would be replaced by season next, he'd be a regular five season player. i think we've seen the best of parker and bellamy, upson just gets better.
