I don't think there is any Canadian player that is so well loved now that if he went to City, even as a squad player, would attract a large number of new fans.

Owen Hargreaves ;)

trust, the majority of canadians dont even know who owen hargreaves is

like I said in another thread, David Silva has Japanese blood in him so why not just use that to get a following?

we can do but, with Honda it would be greater affiliation that the Japanese people with have with him as his nationality is Japanese and not Spanish. Like any person of any country they will take pride in someone who was born and raised in their own country becoming a world star.

As we all know, the Japanese are a set of crazy fans as in the full works obsession type.

China and India are the emerging big markets and ones that will need to be penetrated if we want to move in the right direction to increasing commercial income growth. Those that think we are doing a rag thing and don't like it, there is no choice and is what's needed to become a truly global name in world football. We have raised our profile in these countries over the last few years from the Sheik's takeover and the influx of stars but still a long way behind the likes of the rags and bin dippers. Hong Kong is rag country (I have too many friends from there) but further south it is more varied so good for pushing the brand forward in these areas.

The problem is that although China and India account for half the worlds population neither of them can produce one decent football player

To be honest I agree. Why not sign someone like Honda? A player with obvious ability who would more than pay his transfer fee with shirt sales and merchandise sales in Japan. Or we could sign some shit but popular Asian player for next to nothing to increase our fanbase. Just bring him on in Carling Cup games.

What i find funny is that when the team is announced for a game on facebook, if Dzeko is not in the line up all the Bosnians say Mancini should be sacked lol

-- Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:30 pm --

What i find funny is that when the team is announced for a game on facebook, if Dzeko is not in the line up all the Bosnians say Mancini should be sacked lol

Global fanbases have many pluses and minuses. Profit being the biggest sales point. Sell shirts, sell a brand, make dosh.

The minsues can be seen down road in Stretford.
